• Windows 7 x86 hates ATI Legacy Drivers.

My parents hired some random guy to make my computer for me. He told me it had top-of-the-line graphics. This was Christmas 2007. The card I got was an X1650Pro (late '06 iirc). I had Windows XP, but for some reason the Internet would not connect. So now I bought Windows 7. This graphics card is aging, and with CCC + XP I got 50 FPS with TF2 on high. Now, the problem. Without any drivers/CCC I get low framerates (20) in windowed mode on any high-resource game (TF2,L4D2D), even with everything set on low. Same thing with drivers+CCC. Part 2, oh boy. Everything windowed crashes within 30 minutes. When I'm in fullscreen, it's low FPS but I haven't experienced any crashes yet. It's a new idea I've tried. The "drivers page for Windows 7" on the ATI website tell me to get the Vista drivers, since my card is in the legacy list. They don't work, I've tried all of them. The page also says that I will not get any support for my configuration (7 x86, legacy). Has anyone gotten past this? [editline]01:57AM[/editline] CPU: Intel Pentium D 3.00GHz (I know I know it's old) GPU: Radeon X1650 Pro (Same, how's a 5870 instead?) RAM: 2.0GB DDR2 OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x86
Installed the drivers and ccc in compatibiity mode for windows vista?
You might as well build a new comp if your gonna get a 5870.
[QUOTE=CombineGuru;18289780]Installed the drivers and ccc in compatibiity mode for windows vista?[/QUOTE] I installed the Install Manager pack that it provides you with at first download in compatibility, Vista SP2 and Administrator. I clicked cancel on the CCC+Drivers installation, since I wasn't sure that it carried on the compatibility modes onto different executables. I went to C:\ATI\Support and ran Setup.exe with the same compatibilities. That returned a "Inf file not found" about halfway through installation. I deleted "C:\ATI", as well as "C:\Program Files\ATI" and "ATI Technologies" (that never occurred to me, program files). So, I ran JUST the install manager with compatibilities, since at the end of installation it runs the CCC+drivers installation. Oh shit, "no INF file" again.
[QUOTE=Samuelgames;18290557]I got the old, old driver included in my ATi x1550 in my other computer and it worked fine on Win7, Even that I have no aero, I got OpenGL support and DirectX got stable, Try to find your GFX Card CD[/QUOTE] Whoof, OK, time to go on a scavenger hunt. Brblol. [editline]02:43AM[/editline] I found a USB network card driver disc, a keyboard special function disc, and the motherboard (abit Fatal1ty) disc. [editline]02:50AM[/editline] The motherboard disc only has: Realtek Audio Driver Acrobat Reader 7.0 Award Flash 8.67 DirectX 9.0c ATi SATA Driver Disk Maker ABIT EQ FlashMenu The ATi one asks me to put a floppy in, and I don't have a drive... Yeah I think I need another computer.
Try building a new computer. :P
