So, i've been looking at laptops for the past week and looking up some benchmarks for the laptops in my price range, and it seems that some of the benchmarks show that Intel is beating AMD in running games which I find a bit odd. I'm just interested in knowing how accurate these benchmarks are and if i'm reading them right.
The gpus in my price range are basically the Intel HD 4000, Intel HD 4400, and AMD A8.
My budget is $399 and I will be buying from USA
These are the benchmarks that I am looking at:

I'm not really to crazy about the acer laptops and i'm actually trying to avoid them but i'm not sure if it's just silly to avoid them, if anyone knows of a better laptop for around this price range i'd be very grateful if you could share it with me! :downs:
Intel, Intel, Intel. AMD consistently shits the bed when it comes to laptop hardware because they idle at ridiculously high temperatures and and always go up to 85C+ when under load even if you buy a cooling pad. Not to mention how unreliable they are when it comes to drivers. I know from first-hand experience just how bad it is. Whatever you choose, don't go for AMD if you're looking for a laptop.
I have a little AMD laptop (Phenom II x3 mobile + Mobile HD 4250) that's been referred to as the Laptop from Hell. It would run TES:Oblivion and source games (Gmod, Portal 2, etc) fine at 720p max settings. I don't know about heat though, I never monitored it.
Intel is essentially the better option in terms of processing power, but the A8 and A10 cpus are well-known for their gaming performance.
That's a really tight budget, and none of the ones you put there are really quality systems. Is used/refurbished okay?
I have an HP G7 laptop with an APU in it and the heat problem is absolutely terrible. I've cleaned and put the expensive heat paste on the APU and modified the laptop to remove the blower grill to improve airflow and it still overheats.
Though I really don't care if it kills itself because the screen is already bad, it's just good now for a VMPI slave and other headless tasks.

I would rather it be new since used/refurbished bothers me. I have a desktop for main gaming and my budget could probably be $450 if it's really worth it. This laptop will mostly be for college but when I get bored I want to be able to play simple source engine games like tf2 and l4d2 nothing very big. I also found a lenovo that's in my price range and i've updated the OP. Also thanks to everyone for the feedback and stories I will be only looking for intel laptops now because I don't want to have an extremely hot laptop.
If you're willing to spend $500 there's a lot of options available
Keep in mind most Source games can be run in DX8 mode- you can squeeze a lot of performance out of them that way
Additionally Newegg isn't the cheapest site to search on unless you're buying refurbished.. I just enjoy the ease of their search (they don't fuck you over with it to only show you what they want to show you like Amazon)
Here's a refurbished ASUS laptop, $499

Here's a refurbished Acer Aspire, $454
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834314602
A nice open box Lenovo G50, $455 (with i5- a good step up from the i3 variant you posted)

Acer tends to be cheaper build quality.. I've had good luck with laptops I've bought from them so far, but they typically feel cheap
[editline]21st November 2014[/editline]
Keep in mind only the ASUS is 1080p out of those three
[editline]21st November 2014[/editline]
I'd recommend the ASUS because
ASUS tends to be good build quality
will do light gaming
backlit keyboard
touchscreen is a nice gimmick
metal feel body
1080p
can always upgrade to SSD, add RAM.. $500 isn't a lot to ask IMO
Thanks for these suggestions, although there's just something about refurbished that I don't trust. I think the problems that were there are now eliminated but it's also like buying used to me. Maybe I can spend a bit more and get the new version of them because I do like the laptops you picked out. I was mainly looking for asus products because for some unexplained reason they have a spot in my heart.
What games are you going to play? I would pick up a Thinkpad T420 for around 250$ on Ebay. They have spectacular price/performance.
He doesn't want refurbished or new

Thanks, i'll check that out and mainly the games I want to play is basically source engine games like L4D2, TF2, CS:GO. Maybe some other games like fallout nothing too crazy since I have a desktop to do all my main gaming. I'm gonna buy a laptop for school but I also want it to be able to play some games, so whenever I get bored out of school and i'm away from my desktop I can still play some games.
He doesn't want refurbished or new
Well no, I just don't want refurbished/used I do want it new.
I definitely meant to say used not new
So I fell in love with a lenovo and it goes over my budget but i'm wondering if it's worth it or not.

They're pretty solid machines except for the screen is asa and the trackpad is the devil. But I have high standards for screens, I've sold dozens of that exact model and people haven't had any issues with the screen.
So I ended up buying the E540 for $499 at tigerdirect. Thanks to everyone for the suggestions!
