TAMPA, Fla. — Video released Tuesday shows the fatal shooting of a teen who pointed a shotgun at two plainclothes officers pursuing him in a stairwell.
In the one-minute video recorded last month by an apartment complex security camera, an officer flinches just before the pair opens fire simultaneously on Javon Neal, 16.
Officers Gregory Pryor, 36, and Shannon Murphy, 35, said in their report Neal drew a shotgun and pointed it in their direction, which Police spokeswoman Laura McElroy told the Tampa Bay Times Tampa is consistent with the surveillance footage.
Pryor and Murphy, dressed in civilian clothes and ballistic vests, found Neal at the scene, police said. He led them up an outdoor staircase and appeared to pull an item from his pant leg when police told him to show his hands, which he did not.
Reaching the third floor, he leveled the weapon and did comply with orders to drop it. The gun was described as a shotgun with a pistol grip.
"What you see is both officers jerk back. They have a surprised expression on their face and both start shooting at the exact same moment," McElroy told the paper, referring to the video. "That is the moment where he had turned away from them and pulled out the gun."
In early August, the officers were cleared in Neal's death by the State Attorney's Office.

Justified killing, they had to react quickly and pulling a shotgun on anyone who may appear armed is a stupid fucking idea none-the-less
You make it sound with the title like the police weren't justified.

Flamming a little much here
And yet if the guys on the wrong end of the shotgun wern't cops, people (not necessarily FP) would scream "he didn't deserve to diiiiiieee waaaahhhhh"
The fact of the matter is, if you point a fucking shotgun at anybody, don't be surprised if they return fire, cops or not.
And tazers would of failed in this type of situation, it was a react fast and shoot if they don't comply
he was told to drop it and even if they tasered him he would of shot one of them because of his reaction also it may of not hit him or he could of easily scraped it off
I just wanted to clarify that before the "TAZERS 4 LYFE" people enter the thread.

were any of these posts even remotely necessary?
i don't think anyone would contest that someone pointing a shotgun at cops needed to get shot, nobody has, so why was it so important that you preemptively post about how the cops were justified in shooting a kid. nobody disagrees

you don't know facepunch very well
I like how nobody in this thread is even arguing that the killing was unjustified and you people still manage to get angry.

I was more pointing out the rest of the world's hypocrisy in my post. I knew everyone on Facepunch except for maybe one guy had the sense in this case to know this was to be expected.

i guess that explains all those posts about the police not being justified in killing this dude

just watch this thread for a while, you'll see them.
maybe wait until then before you unleash your lethal force boner on the world?

Look at all the other recent shooting threads "oh why didn't they taze him, why didn't they shoot him in the knees, why didn't they use magic and time travel to stop him??" at least this way it's done quickly and there's not 20 pages of people analysing the advantages of tazers.

I didn't start this one, talk to the other guys about it

that shoot him in the knees thing really bothers me. it's incredible to me that people think that could be a reasonable way to apprehend anyone

It's a lot less likely to kill him than if they're shot anywhere else.
you contributed so why wouldn't i involve you
because it was someone else's lethal force boner, I just threw in some relevant information that people never mention since the subject was already up
Not sensationalist at all..?
Don't pull a shotgun on fucking cops. You should expect to and deserve to get shot.

The old title was
It's a lot less likely to kill him than if they're shot anywhere else.
No it isn't, if you shoot someone in the knee there's loads of vital arteries in it that could be cut by a bone fragment or the bullet itself.

Ok lets not talk about people shooting other people in the knee. It wont happen.
We don't know the full details of why the officers were not in uniform. I just cant fully blame the kid if they were not in uniform. Was he a drug dealer or what? All we really know are the intimidate details so no one can really make a fair judgement.

that's a pretty big artery man. I'd rather be shot in the head than in the knees.
