hey guys, I'm doing my first ever pc build myself (well, first in terms of being in charge of buying parts, I've assembled computers myself a fair bit.) problem is, I have no idea what constitutes good parts nowadays. so if you could help me out with my list, telling me what items I've chosen are shit/good, better replacements for items etc. I would like to be able to play modern video games at a nice framerate (30-45fps), at low-mid/mid settings? my budget is about 500-620 usd, however down here in new zealand computer parts seem to be more expensive, so please take that in mind. currently my list consists of what follows: HDD: Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 64MB 1TB http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=984878 CPU: AMD FX-Series FX-6300 3.5Ghz Socket AM3+ http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1462290 RAM: 1X 8GB Kingston ValueRAM DDR3 PC10600/1333MHz http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1035436 Motherboard: ASRock N68C-GS FX Socket AM3+ http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1130607 Case: Aywun A1-101 320W Power Supply incl (Should I upgrade this power supply?) http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=625489 GFX: Sapphire Radeon HD7770 GHz Edition HDMI Dual-DisplayPort 1GB (might upgrade to a 7850 dual displayport one if I got the cash) http://pricespy.co.nz/product.php?p=1517996 please help me out, I've really jumped in the deep end! thank you very much in advance.

Total $725 + you get 2 free games with the GPU
Stay away from that PSU/case combo. It will blow up in your face. ghoshyuk build is ok, I would get a Haswell CPU tough (i5-4670K and z87 mobo) There is no reason to get an older 3570k on a dead socket. If you want to stay closer to your budget, try something like this: CPU AMD FX-6300 $120 Motherboard MSI 970A-G43 ATX $70 RAM Kingston HyperX XMP Blu Red Series KHX16C9B1RK2/8X 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3-1600 $57 Graphics EVGA GeForce GTX 760 2 GB 02G-P4-2760-KR $250 Hard Drive WD Blue WD10EZEX 1 TB $57 Case NZXT Tempest 210 CA-TP210-01 $40 Power Antec VP-450 450 W ATX12V v2.3 $40 Optical Samsung 24x DVD Burner SATA Model SH-224DB/RSBS $16 Total Price $650 Change the GPU around for an AMD 7870 if you want to lower the price.

In return you get 10% more speed, which is likely to go up when dev's start using its new features. Way lower power use and are using the new 1150 slot instead of the old 1155 allowing you to upgrade in the future.

He'll be paying a lot more money for electricity bills and a higher watt PSU while dealing with heat issues compared to Intel.

For a 600$ budget, AMD might be a better choice and isn't stupid at all. What, you'd rather recommend him a dual core which is considered dead for gaming? The I3 is really close in performance, but is gonna die out quicker performance-wise than the FX-6300.. Games are getting more heavily threaded and the six core is gonna help him out more in the longer run. Although it's not a beast, it's certainly usable for a while. I really don't like to compare cores but what the fuck.. Intel is better high-end.. AMD will do fine low/mid range.

AMD isnt that bad when ur on a low budget, especially since its the cheapest CPU that overclocks well. If you dont ever want to overclock, the intel i3-4130 could be a slightly better option for only 10$ more tough. It gets around 5-10% more speed in current games.

Also the FX 6300 also only has 3 cores, not 6. You'll get better performance with any Core i3 over an FX 6300 which costs nearly the exact same. This thread is about assisting the OP with their build and so I'll stop derailing his thread.

HOLY FUCKING SHIT it's not that much more you wouldn't even be able to tell in the realm of things shit.

A Core i3 3240 performs nearly better in real world scenario at the exact same purchase price. OP my advice would be to get a Core i3 4130. It's the same purchase price as the FX 6300 and performs better. Choose an AMD FX CPU and you'll be paying extra in a larger PSU and a higher cost in electricity bills.

If the build Taipan made is still in mind then I would like to add one thing, The PSU@450w will likely be a little low for this build.. might want to go in the 550-600w range. Even if you choose the I3, the 450w would still be a little too low.
If you are pretty low on money, you could try to shoot your chances at a AMD A10-6800K APU http://us.hardware.info/productinfo/186930/amd-a10-6800k#tab:testresults The results from the internal GPU are pretty stunning already.

Aslong as you buy a good brand and reliable you will be fine.
