...but I have some questions. Is there a certain state of mind I should be in? What should I be prepared for? Is it true that you'll have flashbacks after taking shrooms? Any tips and stories on your experiences would be appreciated.
I've done shrooms once, and I guess I ate too much before or I didn't do enough but I saw things warping, saw colors become more vivid, it was nice, but not what I was expecting, the next time I do them I want to experience ego loss. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline] I don't care so much about hallucinating rather than having a real, life changing experience.
You should be in a tripping state of mind. Remember a few things; You are fine. Don't convince yourself you need to come down from the trip, it's lasting too long, or anything like that, just enjoy yourself. Get all of your work done BEFORE you trip so you have nothing to worry about. What to be prepared for? Things get wavy, things kinda "move" (more wave than anything, but sometimes a bit more extreme) and your state of mind is very content. I stared at my hand for hours, and was so happy I did. Flashbacks? I've never had them. That's more acid and PTSD. I guess you could, sometimes I can see things waving that I know really aren't, but its not a bad thing, I just go "that's cool" and move on. Lastly man, just enjoy yourself. Don't go into it expecting too much, because you may leave disappointed because something specific didn't happen and not enjoy all the things that did. Just do what you want (go outside and look at the stars, lay inside on your bed and listen to music, anything), do what you feel, and have some fun. And as always, respect the drug. I don't care what drug it is, respect it, because shit CAN go wrong, even on something as unlikely as shrooms. Just try to enjoy what the trip gives you, and then more often than not you will get what you were hoping for anyway. And no, you don't want to experience ego loss. I also forgot to mention how AWESOME colors are. Fucking amazing.
[editline]9th December 2010[/editline] I don't care so much about hallucinating rather than having a real, life changing experience.
well, the hallucinations combined with the whole state of mind during a high dosed trip is what makes it a life changing experience
The best state of mind to trip in is to be very relaxed and ready to have a great time..If you let your mind wonder, try to stay positive cause it will make the trip very enjoyable. I had a shitty experience when I thought I shit my mind out when I took a dump.

If your having a great time through the whole trip your first couple times, your doing it wrong. The first times are mind-shattering if you have past/present problems. Which most of us do.
It's not always a great time. If I'm looking to fix problems in my life I normally do that on MDMA.
Alright, thanks for the help guys, I appreciate it. I'll post about my experience once I do it, since I know how much you guys love to read stories.
here's some things i'd reccomend. first off smoking weed doesn't work on shrooms, once you get past a certain threshold it stops working. I'd look for a source to make sure it wasn't just a rumor but the times i did gooms weed was useless. secondly try to find some benzos/barbituates/opiates. preferably soluble in water so you can snort them (i know a few benzos come in a certain preparation where you can put them under your tongue) . why you ask? cause you might need to calm down to keep yourself from freaking out. i remember the first trip i had i bawled the whole way through the comedown because of some girl things had gone fucked up with a year prior. The best way to do shrooms is relaxed as you go into it, so smoke some weed, meditate (look up meditation and self soothing techniques on google, they can be extremely useful) or do whatever you need to do to relax before you eat those delicious magic mushrooms.
I always wait till right before the peak of my trip before taking a fat toke. Makes shit soo crazy.

I had a shitty experience when I thought I shit my mind out when I took a dump.
I remember this story :D
The two times I did shrooms, I just got huge mindfucks. My friend, whom I got the shrooms from, also has bad experiences with these shrooms, but has had one awesome time with different ones, so I'll probably try those once I'm not nervous about shrooms anymore.
It's good to have a trip sitter. Many people don't need one, but I suggest one because you know they'll stop you from doing something stupid and you can just go with the trip without a lot of thinking. Have someone you can trust and who won't mess with you. Shroom story time. One of my good friend's up in college had his first shroom trip. I joined him kind of as a trip sitter, kind of just to hang out. I felt and came back a bit later and he was really feeling it kick in. His roommate and his roommate's girlfriend where there as well, and my friend started to associate pain with pleasure. He had the girl punch him to which he would respond with a positive reaction because he said it felt really cool. I thought this was a bit odd and he was getting a bit too hyperactive so I tried to get him to relax and listen to music. I did some hypnotism on him which he quite enjoyed. For some reason the other two in the room thought it would be funny to tell him that he had spiders crawling all over him to which I disagreed. Not too much later he got a bit hyper again and into the whole getting hit stuff, and then he says "I'm going to punch the wall" to which I reply "no, think about the consequences". So he looks at me and nods in agreement and then punches the floor as hard as he can twice. I was just thinking "oh jeez". He was in a world of pleasure and everyone got a little bit worried so we had him sit lay down and looked at his hand. The damage he did was pretty bad, but for the moment he was enjoying it. I go back to my room Meader about what happened and asked if he could trip sit him in there because I didn't trust the other two in there. I then proceed to get some food for myself before the campus store closes. I come back and my friend is in a world of pain, and for some reason Meader is my friend's father and the girl is his mother. He sounds like he's on his deathbed and demands wanted stuff people to sit or stand in certain places. Meader had to leave and my friend was very distraught by this and it took a lot of reassuring that he'd be alright if Meader left. He was still in a pretty bad state of mind and wasn't getting much better, my attempts to get him out of it weren't working. He kept on saying "I missed the train" which seemed to be some kind of symbolic statement and was pretty funny. He brought up the train a decent number of times over the next hour of agony. He somehow got the idea that when I hypnotized him earlier that I put a spell on him and I had to explain a few times that hypnotism like that isn't real and all that I was doing was telling you what to feel. He eventually started to become more rational and got out of the bad mindset. He was still tripping pretty good. He asks if he can go somewhere and we both go over to my room where is snaps into a whole other mindset where he is completely normal besides feeling some pain in his hand. He told me that the change of room really helped a lot. The rest of the night went really smooth and he had a good rest of the trip. His hand got pretty screwed up. He told me that he thought he was dying and stuff. We talked about the usual stuff that people talk about when they are on shrooms. Was pretty interesting. I remember Meader texting me asking me how he was doing and he was glad to know he was doing better. It was a pretty crazy night, I'm just glad he didn't punch the wall and that I was there to at least stop him from doing that. I really didn't have any chance at stopping him from punching the floor because he did it out of nowhere. His next shroom trip went so much better. Moral of the story: don't intentionality harm yourself when on shrooms.
-- STORY --
This i think is pretty much up to the person. I think the person likes to showoff and had that mindset before the shrooms hit and had it throuhout the entire trip. if you are going to have a trip buddy i suggest you just have one friend and the tripwatcher smoke some weed etc just so both get the chill mindset not the "Whoa im with 3 people and they can see me trip AWESOME"ish
best thing to give a bad trip some good vibes again is changing to a different room, putting on some music or reading some comics. as far as u can read lol
think happy thoughts, and most of all.. if your not ready.. dont do it at all.

He was just not thinking. Seriously, I left the room for like, a minute and a half and he broke his hand in that time. And I remember the two others wanting to tell him about spiders. I had to make up some story about a kid who was told that and in response jumped out a window. Don't fuck with people on drugs, it's a dick move.
I don't remember at all when you were in the room and stuff. I feel like you weren't initially because you were packing, but I really am unsure.
I don't remember at all when you were in the room and stuff. I feel like you weren't initially because you were packing, but I really am unsure.
I was. I packed way earlier. I was in the room and then I had to call my mom so I left for literally a minute and a half and you came in and said Nick was hurt.
Be relaxed. Just make sure you're in a relaxed environment and state, and you'll be fine. I find that if I start getting uncomfortable, moving to a different room, or doing something different, helps a lot.
BS smoking weed makes the trip stronger, you just dont feel the weed buzz because the shroom buzz is overwhelming.
it's more because shrooms drain some chemical that makes you feel weed or some shit.
As far as I'm aware, the shrooms simply just overpower the weed because being on shrooms is way more intense than being on weed. There are reports of people doing DMT while on acid and they say that the DMT really overpowered the acid and that the acid didn't have much of an affect on the DMT trip. To make a dumb analogy, imagine you're climbing up a mountain, weed will bring you up a few hundred feet where you get a nice view, while an 1/8 of shrooms will bring you far up the mountain and the view is far more fantastic and breathtaking. Smoking weed would make you a little higher, but the view would essentially be the same since it is barely bringing you up. I have this whole thought about time being a big impact in how high you perceive you are. Going from a completely sober state to a certain level of highness in 10 minutes would be a lot more intense than going to that level of highness within an hour. This is of course common sense in some way, but I think it has some good practical use. For example, I think the best way to get as high as you can would be to smoke as much as you can with little breaks. The way some people smoke is smoking a set amount over a longer period of time, but I've always felt that I never got as high that way and the best method has been to smoke my set amount right off. Usually my goal when I smoke is to get really high, although I can understand that some people may just want to get high. I'm rambling because I don't feel like cleaning my room.
Weed stops working after a while, not that it doesn't work. I remember smoking weed and feeling it like normal (i was completely high on gooms at this time) then after the second time i smoked i couldn't feel it the next 4 times i smoked
I've noticed that on afterglows when the hallucinations are all gone, if I smoke a lot of weed then I'll start tripping again. However, you need to smoke a lot, and the anxiety and panic from weed is enhanced by the shrooms. I've smoked on the peak too, it seems to have the same potentiating effect. I once took a pretty small dose of shrooms, barely threshold dose, didn't feel much after one and a half hours so I smoked half a gram of weed and started tripping out, but it was very anxiety filled and overall I'd describe it as a bad trip (although it got more enjoyable after a while, once the weed peak was over), but I recommend smoking on the afterglow only. Oh and weed potentiating the effects of the trip doesn't seem to be limited to shrooms. I've experienced it on all tryptamine+weed combos I've tried, so I suppose it goes for all tryptamines.
yeah dont smoke too much during your peak, i find the most relaxed 1 bowl after ingestion, 1 bowl during the come up, 1 bowl after the first hour of the peak and then a bowl every hour. dont get too greedy cus that backfired on me once.
Make sure you're comfortable with taking shrooms, the people you're around, and the place you're in. You will want to be around some other people who are tripping, and some others who are not. Making sure you're comfortable with all those things is the most important preventative measure from having a bad trip, I believe. After countless shroom trips, I have never had a bad trip (well, a few have had scary moments but I guess that's what happens if you fall into a lake on hallucinogens) and I'm more or less certain that's why. Expect to be a little anxious for about 30 minutes to an hour while you're coming up, if you're taking 1.25-1.75 grams, which is a fair first trip. That's another thing, for a first trip I wouldn't recommend going outside the range of 1-2 grams depending on your weight. You don't want to be over- or under-whelmed. Anyway, while you're coming up, expect to be anxious and maybe experiencing fluctuations in body temperature. Don't be too analytical of your trip. Just enjoy it. Don't worry if you're tripping hard enough or not, or if you're going to have a bad trip, or try to measure how much better colors, lights, music, foods, etc., are. Really, just sacrifice your mind to the little mystics, and enjoy yourself. Have some fun stuff around. Glow sticks, paint, good music, pictures of space, hula hoops, someone to love on, sweet food, you know. If you can, take shrooms at a music festival! It's the perfect atmosphere and all those things will be pretty much on hand. My personal favorites are an LED hula hoop, fried oreos, Pink Floyd, Animal Collective, the Hubble Telescope photos, watercolors and charcoal. Not only are the art supplies fun while you're tripping but you'll have a souvenir for later. If you're artistic, it'll be really awesome, and if you're not, it'll be a fun thing to have. For a first trip, I recommend taking shrooms on their own, and if you want to, experiment with taking them on other drugs later. I recommend this for any drug so you can really understand its properties on its own, which is just a smart thing to do, especially if you're into synergizing drugs later. If you do plan to take others with shrooms, I recommend some acid that you know is good -- take it on its own first so you know it's really acid -- and/or ecstasy (buy it in its pure form if possible, usually called molly). And, of course, smoking a few bowls will always be nice. However I don't recommend taking a lot of these at once -- if you take shrooms, molly, and smoke a bit your heart will be doing backflips, since they're all stimulants. If you take all of those and then another upper, you're going to need to lay down around the cumulative peak, hahaha. As for stories... I'll share a few that may be of value to a prospective tripper. My first trip was last winter, and it was really cold outside. Which isn't really important. Anyway, I took them with my at-the-time boyfriend at his friend's house, and there were maybe 5 other people tripping, and 5-8 other people not tripping (though they were all some kind of intoxicated, in retrospect). I knew all of them, trusted all of them and was pretty close with about half of them. I took about 1.2 grams and the taste and texture really grossed me out, as we just ate the caps straight (later I would discover there are other drugs that taste much, much worse, but that's irrelevant). The come-up lasted probably about 45 minutes, though it's hard to tell because my sense of time was pretty much fucked from the beginning. I felt jittery and was receiving waves of heat followed by waves of cold. That pretty much ended though when some distractions presented themselves. I remember the first song I heard was Sleepyhead by Passion Pit (I did not like this song before, but it sounded amazing, and now I quite like it). I could feel the waves of the music entering through my ears, travelling inside my body, bouncing off the walls of my silhouette. I could see it in colorful waves against the black of my silhouette (in actuality I wasn't looking at a silhouette, that's just how I imagined it, if that wasn't clear). After maybe 10-15 minutes of sitting in the same place listening to music, we went outside. First, walking felt really weird. I felt like I was standing on stilts and I was 30 feet above the ground. But I made it down the stairs and across the yard (the guy's yard has fruit trees and flowers and bushes and trees and a dock on a beautiful lake, and it was night time, and I could see a million stars on the purple-black sky, and I seriously felt like I was in Narnia) to the bonfire. Watching the smoke and sparks from the fire was fascinating, I felt like a sage whose soul was as old as fire itself. I sat around the fire and talked to the other people for a while before I went back inside, where two people were. One was playing the kalimba (also called thumb piano) and the other was on the keyboard, and they were just improving with eachother. It. Was. AMAZING. The room was decorated with christmas lights and no other lights, some tapestries and overall it was really beautiful, the purple air and the music. I was dancing with my then-boyfriend and I remember thinking about how things like that would set a precedent for the future and stuff like this we would remember, and the future would be like this, but it started then and I was still living in that certain moment... I can't really explain it, but generally speaking I was thinking about the cyclic nature of time and the future as it would relate to the present. After a while we decided to paint together/eachother, so we went out to his car to get some paints. We walked through the guy's living room, and star trek was on the television but the sound was off and I heard the sounds of some other people making food in the kitchen. This brief experience freaked me out, and apparently I screamed "WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?". I have no recollection of this. Anyway, when he opened the trunk of his car, where the paints were, it seemed to me that the trunk went on forever and I could've dived into it. I talked myself out of this and we took the paints inside. We started painting a Buddhist monk meditating in a Shinto-style pagoda in front of the sun and a lake, but at the time neither of us were artistically talented. I still have the painting somewhere, and it's really fun to look back on and remember. When we woke up the next day we both had considerable amounts of paint on us, although I don't remember how that happened. When I went to the bathroom, looking in the mirror was a little scary. Under the light my face looked extremely pale and my eyes looked huge, and my mouth tiny. My face was waving and bubbling-from-underneath, and my arms looked huge, and it shook me up pretty bad. Granted, I had some pretty severe body image problems at the time and hallucinogens have the startling quality of making you very honest with yourself, whether you realise it or not. Anyway, at this point it was around 3 AM and my then-boyfriend and I went back to his house and went to sleep. I was coming down at that point and I don't remember any extraordinary dream. When I woke up the next day I didn't feel any kind of hangover effect, and I never have with shrooms. Except once, but that was a crazy night. On other occasions... I've run through an open meadow with my arms out as fast as I could under a sky full of stars and that felt amazing. I can't really explain how it felt, but it was liberating and surreal, and I couldn't stop yelling, "I feel INCREDIBLE!" This was at a music festival so it wasn't that out of the norm. Also at a music festival, I was with two friends and we heard what would have otherwise been a mediocre jam-band do a cover of Pink Floyd's "Comfortably Numb". All three of us are big into Pink Floyd and that song in particular, and it sounded incredible. I had fried oreos on a few occasions -- though I'm normally really particular about eating well -- and you have no idea. Nothing has ever tasted so good. Glowsticks have served me well many a-trip. If you have a few other people, take some glowsticks and dance around with them. It's captivating. Or you could break/cut them open and sprinkle it on yourself and the stuff around you -- it comes out in fuzzy little drops and it looks like galaxies all over your skin. This is probably a really bad idea, and it sinks into your skin after about 5 minutes and it's really oily and smells like citronella. But... you'll enjoy it at the time. I took shrooms on the summer solstice at a drum circle solstice party and the rhythmic drumming and dancing was one of the best experiences I've ever had. I think that's pretty much it. Enjoy yourself!
If smoking weed makes you anxious or paranoid then don't smoke it while you're tripping.
If smoking weed makes you anxious or paranoid then don't smoke it while you're tripping.
This. Weed makes me anxious. I can control it normally. But on shrooms it's much harder to control. I usually smoke a little weed about half an hour before eating the shrooms. This combats the indigestion
