Obama: 'You can't change Washington from the inside' September 20, 2012
Four years after Barack Obama campaigned on a promise of "hope and change," he now is admitting that a president isn't able to change Washington "from the inside" -- an admission that rival Mitt Romney promptly blasted as "the white flag of surrender."
President Obama, at a forum Thursday hosted by the Spanish-language TV channel Univision, lamented the challenge of shaking up the status quo in the capital.
"The fact that we haven't been able to change the tone in Washington is disappointing," Obama said, in response to a question about his greatest failure. "The most important lesson I've learned is you can't change Washington from the inside. You can only change it from the outside."
He didn't explicitly state how he defines that distinction, but he suggested change "from the outside" means getting more ordinary Americans involved in the process.
"That’s how I got elected, and that’s how the big accomplishments like health care got done, was because we mobilized the American people to speak out," he said. "That’s how we were able to cut taxes for middle-class families.
Obama also pointed to his administration's failure to pass comprehensive immigration reform as one his biggest failure, but Romney's campaign pounced on the "change" quote.
"He's asking for another four years while admitting he can't change Washington," senior Romney adviser Kevin Madden said.
And Romney made it a key part of his speech Thursday at a rally in Sarasota, Fla.
"The president today threw in the white flag of surrender again. He said he can’t change Washington from inside, he can only change it from outside," Romney said. "Well, we’re going to give him that chance in November. He’s going outside!
"I can change Washington, I will change Washington. We’ll get the job done from the inside. Republicans and Democrats will come together. He can’t do it."
The president learned something and admitted he was wrong about it.
WHAT AN ASSHOLE.
If Romney means "change Washington" as in make it worse than it already is, he wouldn't be lying.

thats one aggressive motherfucker
How dare a democratically elected official want the help of the people for anything!
Seriously, Romney is grasping at straws here.
it's not like you even tried to deliver on your pledge to get wall street out of the white house, barack
well, so much for "Change you can believe in"
(What, so only Democrats have a sense of Humor?)
but obama can just executive order fix gov't
rite
well, so much for "Change you can believe in"
We don't elect a dictator.
We have these asshats called conservatives who are, by definition, terrified of change or any form of social or economic progress. If you would take even the briefest look back, you'd see Obama managed to achieve many of his objectives, and attempted to complete virtually all of them. At every fucking turn he was accosted by the fucking Republicans.
Fucking Republicans got us into this mess. Sit the fuck back and let the adults fix it.
well, so much for "Change you can believe in"
To be fair, he didn't say that you can't change Washington. He said that it takes a larger movement than he thought to change Washington.
well, so much for "Change you can believe in"
He stated the obvious. In order for "Change" you need more than one willing individual to do it.
"So he certainly has political skill, but I believe that at this time, to change Washington, it would be h elpful to have somebody who comes with more private sector skill, experience outside Washington. I don't think you change Washington from the inside. I think you change it from the outside." - Romney , 2007
he's flip-flopping to get votes, whats new??
Do a president have the power to fire all employer in the white house?
not how the government works
[editline]20th September 2012[/editline]
both the house and the senate living with the potus?
would be an amusing sitcom

Dude, you don't have to explain to me what I am.
Besides, If you can make fun of Bush, why can't I make fun of Obama?
PS. adults focus more on the mess while cleaning it rather than who made it.
Washington is in desperate need of political reform if it doesn't want to be taken as a joke by the rest of the world.

Because Bush and his Republican pals got us embroiled in two separate conflicts that have cost tens of thousands of lives. Tens of thousands of people are dead in two separate nations, neither of which ultimately housed the guy we wanted nor were actual WMD's ever found. Big surprise.
Bush took us from a spending SURPLUS to the worst deficit we had ever seen.
Adults are smart enough to not hand the reigns back over to the morons who got thousands of people killed and crushed the world's strongest economy all while allowing the rise of the TSA, an organization dedicated to shitting all over the bill of rights.
Obama has slowly been working us out of this shithole and what? You want to hand control back over to the morons who got us into it in the first place?

p.s.s: adults recognize 4 years of a presidency that is constantly interfered with won't fix up a mess that's been going on 8 years
Being a president is like being a carpenter to a shack held up by planks of wood. Throughout the years each plank begins to splinter and break or in some extreme cases rot. A carpenter is called every time to fix them, but really all they can do without making the entire house fall is put more planks to steady the breaking beam or add more planks elsewhere, hoping that if they can't keep the house up the next carpenter to come along can do it.
Our idea of what a president can do is vastly different than what they can actually do or even worse get accomplished in their 4 to 8 years.

Because Obama is at-least competent, compared to the chimpanzee known as Bush.
I said it once, and I'll say it again.

Don't forget that Bush lost the popular vote. We didn't vote that brainless asshole into office. Our ancient-ass broken-as-fuck system did.
I'd vote for Obama purely because of his honesty.

So when Obama says something, he has "grown and learned" or whatever feel-good shit you want to say.
When Romney does it, it's a flip-flop.
How about both of them are just lying and pandering to get votes. Obama has a better PR team but he is a fucking disgusting individual.

The problem here is that Romney doesn't just flip-flop, he completely changes entire policies and opinions.
I think that the republicans should just say "fine" to whatever Obama wants to do. That way, no one will accuse the republicans of getting in the way (they do) and we can all see if his policies fail or work.

Poor bastard. You don't know it, Glaber, but you're actually Obama's biggest advocate. You keep posting these threads about him that make him look like a saint.
