While it's not the release of the game itself, it's at least a release of new high-res screenshots from the PC version, the most advanced version of the game yet.
The PC version of the game promises a much higher level of detail than the PS4 and Xbone versions, but also very advanced graphics settings, or what Rockstar themselves call "deep configuration options".

(Right click and press "View"/"open in new tab" to look at the screenshots properly if you don't have a 4K monitor)
Lets be honest come 1-2 years when modding is a thing. The PC community is gonna be having more fun than console community.
Chop actually has fur, wow. I need this, in my life, right fucking now. In a small glimmer of hope; I think Rockstar will finish "early" and go "Oh, we finished early, we can put it back to the original release date!"
But, everyone knows that won't happen... :(

Chop looks like that mexican dude that grows hair all over his face
Damn this looks impressive, its pretty crazy to see how far we've come in terms of graphics from just a few years ago.

Let's be honest, in 1-2 years when modding is a thing, GTA6 is gonna be out and the console community are gonna be enjoying the newest iteration in silky smooth 900p at 30fps while PC users wait three years for a port.

i imagine gta6 will take a little bit longer than 3 years to make
Can anyone here do comparison shots of the PS4/Xbone editions of the game? I'm curious to see how it looks when compared. Was interesting last time
Risking a lot of hate, those... those are kind of disappointing (when you click them for actual resolution)
It really shows that the game is old.
The only thing that seem lackluster to me is the resolution of some of the textures
Looks really great actually, if people want better graphics wait for icenhancer and all that jazz. But I've always played gta vanilla.
Keep in mind that the game might be optimized for older setups too so no doubt that if you can run gta iv you can run this.
I might just downsample from 4K if I can handle it. Looks so good.

The gap between 4 and 5 being released was about 5 years. GTA5 is coming up for it's 2nd year since release this september, so add on another 2 years to that and you've got the very real possibility that GTA6 will be out by then.

Nah I don't see another GTA coming out so soon. Probably Red Dead is up next.

Here's to hoping it's well optimized - it looks gorgeous when downscaled from 4K, but in real res it's kinda ugly. If it runs well, I might even be able to use DSR for 4K res on my 970 (very unlikely tho).
Please be well optimized.
if it's well optimized it doesn't matter. And how does it look old at all?
the thing is, they have to tone graphics down a little because of the scale of the game. It's not a small room like max payne 3 was. it's this HUGE city.

with the amount of time they spent on V, theres no way they can even afford to devote time to another one until for 4-5 years

not to mention the fuckton of detail that goes into every aspect of the game
i can go into a gas station and look at the employee schedule in the back

That too
the xbox 360 version had so much insane detail it wasn't even funny. They had to cut SO MUCH out because of how poor the system was.

honestly i think its blaitantly obvious that rock* was paid a fuckton of money to even make a version for the last gen, then they took the proceeds from those and used them to seriously boost the game's quality for current gen

If they're gonna follow the same pattern as GTA 4, then in 2 years time they're gonna release some stand-alone DLC's that's based on GTA 5.
Where much of the work is already done in regards of platform optimizing.

na i don't see them doing the whole episodal model

Why do people think like this? You're assuming that Rockstar is this small developer that can only afford to work on one game at a time and they take about 4 years for each game they work on one at a time. Historically however, they were working on both GTA5 and Red Dead Redemption at the same time and took about 4-5 years since starting on them to finish them.
Development started on GTA5 in 2009, not long after the release of GTA4. At the same time they were working on Red Dead Redemption which I believe began production sometime around 2005ish.
Chances are, Rockstar started working on the next GTA sometime in 2014, are likely some way through development of Red Dead Redemption 2 and will release it in the next year or two and we'll probably see GTA6 in 2017/2018. At the same time they probably allocated a smaller team to work on content updates for 5 while the core teams are busy on RDR and GTA6.

If they were following the same pattern as GTA4, The Episodes would already be out for the Xbox One by now and we'd be eagerly awaiting their upcoming release for PC and PS4. If they are working on something they've certainly kept very tight lipped about it. What they haven't kept mum about is the heist expansion which is releasing very soon, that may very well be this GTA's Episodes from Liberty City, sadly.
Holy hell the water in this game looked amazing in the last release, now it looks fucking phenomenal.
Only downside I saw in all of these pictures was how fur on chop looked, it looks like he had some touch up with the spray tool in paint.
Looks damn good. The amazing potential from mods in this game is going to be incredible as well. I can't wait!
Chop's fur looks awful.

And how much of that is your monitor shitting itself because you're trying to display a 4k pic on it? Mine is 1920x1200, there's no way in hell I'm getting a 4K pic to look any better than native res. Either A: It's zoomed in and I have the FOV of a sniper's scole, or B: It's zoomed out and blurry as fuck because of said zoomout.
'Tis kinda the reason I never get all that excited about teaser screenshots touting graphics like this. Especially resolution.
I'm really looking forward to GTA 5 holy shit.
My CPU hurt just looking at those photos
That moment when most people can't even touch 4K without 30 frames.
I viewed them screenshots on a 4k monitor can't say they are that amazing....
