So this is the first PC I'm ever building, and I'm not 100% sure what's necessary and what's not, and if it's possible, I'd like to get help whittling the price down a bit. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/VmpdMp I'd prefer to keep the 970 and the i5, as I'm trying to get something that will have good performance for a few years or so, but if it's really necessary to save some money I'm open to suggestions. Is there anything on here that's not really needed?
Personally, I'd swap out the HDD for this as the one you have is a WD Red series (24/7 drive) but its not a huge issue. Same as what Kiwi said with the ram and if you want the cooler then thats fine, but its not 100% needed as the stock cooler will do the job. Other than that, do you have a dvd drive?
I don't, but I was planning on getting one later, since it's not top priority. I could also take the one out of my current PC, I suppose.
Get Windows 8.1 instead of 7, it runs faster and you (supposedly get a free upgrade to Windows 10
I'm really not at all a fan of Windows 8's UI, and it also doesn't work with many older games, which I still enjoy playing. Plus it's more expensive. I might get it at a later date and install it on a separate hard drive, though.
Which older games are you struggling to run? Cause afaik and in my experience, older games run like they do on Windows 7.
There are definitely games I can't run on W8. They are quite older ones, and not exactly AAA titles, but they are there.
So here's my updated version http://pcpartpicker.com/p/CBMnNG I decided to go with an AMD because performance should be mostly the adequate gaming wise, according to my friend. Anything else I should do or should I just order already? I wasn't planning on getting a 3570k to begin with, so it's between an i5-4460 and the fx-8350 still.
