I log onto facepunch whenever I want to.
The record is generally set or broken whenever Facepunch experiences extremely high external traffic - usually from a thread being linked to by a news story or a popular Digg page. Artificially altering it won't accomplish much, and it probably won't even be possible.
The only reason the current 'Most users online' is what it is is because when Crysis 2 was leaked, every news site decided to link to the thread here, meaning we had a 12,000 strong swarm of unregistered users flooding on here.

In order to break that large of a record, you must have the amount of normal users online plus the amount of users who have seen this thread and will follow through with it. (which is 1 as of now (you))

Yes, if the 500 people who glance at this thread log in at that time then surely it will set us over the [b]15,000[/b] mark!
Most of the 14k people who were online were guests so getting everyone to log on at the same time probably wouldn't break the record.
