This competition has to be available to just about everyone. Don't suggest case modding or anything else that would cost a lot of money. Let's make this open to everyone.
I would like to see another usb mod that would be pretty cool
Most creative desktop seems more like something that would be specific to the arts section. Since case modding is off the table then I choose USB mod.
I still wanna try and unnecessary cooling mod competition
Does the USB mod mean the best casing design for a USB?

Yep
All right
since it looks like it's going to be the USB mod, I think I'll use my one from the '08 competition I never submitted.
Awesome I'll let this thread sit for a few more days in case someone has a really good idea.
If it ends up being USB mod, then the prize will be a high capacity flash drive (how fitting).
just how high are we talking

Cause I totally have that much money to blow. More like $50-$60 tops.
One of these might be sort of nice:

Picked one up myself for $20 during a Christmas sale on Newegg 3 years ago. Its been one of the best $20 I've spent.
That or any game off Steam that's no more than $50.
I approve of H&S competitions.
Voted USB modding. Simple, cheap, accessible.

Make the prize $50 worth of steam games
What kind of USB mod are we talking? Most imaginative use of a USB connection? Best looking device?
I still say custom cooling, I'm sure FP has had one before, andthe results were quite interesting.
Voted Other, idea:
How about who can make the best mod out of a old keyboard, such as spray painting it, custom keys, colour, having some form of lighting built into it from the led's or from external usb power etc. making a crappy one looks somewhat nicer and up to todays style

Voted Other, idea:
what
Voted Other, idea:
sounds cool.
So, whats this usb mod thing? You mod the casing of a flash drive?
USB mod, will participate
An example of a USB mod:

Also, the prize is going to be either a flash drive or a Steam game (max price $50).
ohh okay, the keyboard thing sound cool too tough.
I've got two keyboards laying around, but I don't see any potential for either of them. I mean I guess you COULD take out the keys one by one and spraypaint them but damn that's a little over the top I think.
And how else could you make it unique? You can't put LED's in every key on an old Dell.
USB mods are always awesome to see.
I love the creativity of facepunch.

Well I was thinking of modding the scroll lock into a led light that lights up the keys so typing in the dark is easier, along with spray painting the keyboard frame, and grabbing some cheap repalcement colour keys, or maybe making a led stripe and fix that near the top of the keyboard then have that being powered by the scroll lock key again.
I'm just pulling ideas out of my head, maybe putting your own design on the keyboard/stencils of your fav game etc.
If it turns out to be a USB mod will it be required that you pull apart an old drive? Or will we be able to just pull the USB connector off of something else, stick it to a piece of card that is the size of the board and build it around that. I ask because I don't have an old USB drive and can't afford to go and spend even a small amount on one right now.
