TaiwanesePrick's Dboys M4SD Review: Because somebody had to do it

Background History (not from wikipedia, but typed up by yours truly; so you might as well read through it)
Sometime in 2008, Dboys released their notorious M4 and M4SD. Both of these guns had metal receivers and gearboxes, and were much anticipated by players and retailers alike. But they turned out to be among the greatest disappointments of AEGs history; right up there with the Generation 1 SRC guns and the name "Double Eagle". The model I have is the M4CQB or M4SD, with the metal free-floating rail with an integrated suppressor. Another distinguishing feature of this gun from the Dboys M4 was that it featured a CQB rear sight and a crane stock. It also lacked a front sight, of all things. The gun comes with two plastic rail covers, a black 300-round hicap, as well as a vertical KAC-style foregrip.
The real-steel M4SD is probably exactly what it sounds like. An M4 with an integrated suppressor. I've yet to see pictures of soldiers using them in battle environments or whatnot, so I'll just assume it's one of those airsoft-manufacturer cook-ups for people who like MP5SDs but have shitloads of M4 mags lying around.

Before you guys start feeling sorry for me, THIS IS NOT MY GUN. One of my friends got ripped off by Evike and paid $200 last year for it, and when his mother decided that he get rid of the gun because his grades sucked, he gave it to me. He told his mother that he's sold me the gun, and even gave her an $100 bill to "prove" it. Anyway, the catch is that if he ever comes over and his mom sees that gun, I'm to tell her that yes, he did indeed sell it to me. No biggie. At least I got a free loaner gun out of this. Besides the fact that anyone that I lend this gun to will not have fun playing with it....
But moving right along....
The M4SD externally looks and feels pretty decent. The pistol grip, stock, and accessories are plastic. The forward assist button is pressable (yay) but does nothing (aw). The magazine release button is also kind of weird. There's no screw to remove the assembly, so if you're planning to swap out the release for an aftermarket or ambidextrous one, you're out of luck. The bolt catch flops is also non-functional, and in addition to that, it flops around like a donkey dick. The crane stock houses the battery, and just forward of the buffer tube is an ambidextrous sling mount. I took the sling mount and stuck it on my T91. It's probably the only decent part of this gun.
The rail system/suppressor is loctited together, and it is impossible to remove the suppressor to get rid of the orange cap that's wedged in between the inside of the front of the can and the inner barrel. The entire RIS assembly is also wobbly and does not align properly. My friend lost the rear sight that came with the gun, but I assume that it was metal and was adjustable for windage and elevation. The rail covers are a little tight on the RIS, and are kind of wonky as well. The foregrip is identical to the one from my Double Eagle M83.
There are no markings on the receiver, and the selector switch markings are laser-etched rather than engraved.
Internals and Whatnot
The metal gearbox is extremely clunky. Put shoes in your tumbling dryer and the noise it makes will be identical to the one emitted from the Dboys M4SD's V.2 gearbox. The hopup can be accessed by yanking back the charging handle and flipping open the dust cover. There is no dummy bolt.
The gun also had some feeding problems. I replaced the hopup clip, and that seemed to solve the problem. Overall, the gun's internals are shit. But hey, mine was free. So I'm not complaining.

The most disturbing part is the QC sticker, meaning someone actually decided it was good enough.
So this is why I was warded off Dboys ARs... :ohdear:
The mag release is removable, you have to press it as much as possible and twist the part on the other side. At least that's how it is on my M4.
You're too nice in your review lol.
I'll buy it off of you for $5.50 if you give me a 30%discount on top of that.
I'm overpaying for it anyway lol.
My dboys m4 is p decent
Too bad it has a new motor, spring, bearings, hopup and a 6.01 barrel :v:

Your Dboys externals are p decent :v:
Nice review, very thorough. I have a love / hate relationship with my dboys. Basically all internals of my SCAR have been replaced and the PDW has broken down on me several times. I run them hard though.
