The fan on my 4850 will rev up loudly, and then stop, and then start, doing it over and over very annoyingly. I bought a new fan for it, and it's coming in the mail tomorrow. BUT, i learned about this 'spin up bug' when i was looking around in Radion Bios Editor (RBE) with my other 4850, and it showed an option to 'fix spin up bug'(although that card doesn't have the problem). I got excited at seeing this and powered down my pc, swapped out graphics cards to my bugged one, and did all the stuff to get my bios into RBE. After i had the bios loaded up, i went to the tab where it had the 'fix spin up bug' but the option was grayed out!
So i looked it up on the internet and on this article http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/154/7 it says near the bottom,
"Several 4870 cards have been reported to have a "spin up bug", as I call it. This bug causes the fan to spin up to almost 100% at certain conditions, stay there for a couple of seconds and drop down again, no temperature issue given. RBE automatically determines if the loaded BIOS contains the bug and offers to fix it. If this option is greyed out for you, your BIOS doesn't sufffer from that bug."
But i feel confident that the card DOES in fact have to bug.
So basically what i am asking is this:
Is there a way around this so i have the option to fix it
Is there another work around for this spin up problem
Is what i described possibly just my fan failing? (I don't see how my fan failing would make it rev up and shut off over and over, but i'm not an expert.)
