British submarine HMS Tireless has joined the hunt for missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
The Ministry of Defence said the Trafalgar class submarine had arrived in the southern Indian Ocean and would help search for the plane's black box recorder.
It will soon by joined by Royal Navy coastal survey ship HMS Echo.
The aircraft disappeared with 239 people on board on 8 March while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing.
Earlier on Tuesday, Air Chief Marshal Angus Houston - the man co-ordinating the search from Australia - said the hunt was the "most challenging" ever seen and could take weeks.
Submarines are cool
I think submarines are scary, imagine swimming in the sea then hearing a huge drone underneath you. Looking under the water and seeing a big black submarine going right close to you. no thanks thats nightmare material.

After so many years of searching, I've finally discovered what a submarine looks like. Bless your heart Smurfy! <3
Been on that

HMS Tireless looks too intense for me
if they put wheels on it could it no longer be the hms tireless

Submarines can be quite scary in the right conditions.

But they're also quite interesting inside.

I just love the fact they sent a submarine named Tireless.

Kind of like this nope-inducing picture

I'd feel alot safer knowing there is a submarine nearby, if I were swimming in the sea.
Especially when there could be different things lurking below...
Isn't is strange that the world's powers are devoting so many resources to finding this plane?
After all the shit that's been going on in the world, i'm wary on everything.

I like how the crew sleeps literally next to the nuclear missiles.
Not that they would be safer in any other spot on the vessel if one of them went off, it still must be pretty eerie to fall asleep curled up next to a finger of death.
a modern unarmed nuclear missile is probably the safest thing i can think of, for a very good reason.
[editline]1st April 2014[/editline]
also that area is the most heavily armored and protected so it's the best place for humans in emergencies, ironically.

I am not concerned about their safety, really, it's more of about the feeling of sleeping next to such a destructive potential.

How about human decency?
I find this odd, the Admiralty usually don't reveal where the submarines are.

governments? having human decency? come on now. there's some ulterior motive here.

Dude that's from the fucking X-Files
I find this odd, the Admiralty usually don't reveal where the submarines are.
I'm guessing, given the huge search area, it's not so much of an issue (it was probably in the area, or somewhere nearby anyway, I guess).
Submarines are like surface ships that can go underwater.

Ships are like surface submarines that can't go underwater.
If this cannot find at least the black box, it isn't in that area IMO. I can't remember where I read/heard it (It was either the BBC news site or I heard it in a video where someone was tearing down a black box) but an "average" sub can pick up a black box at some silly range because of its sonar.
