A Sprint Corp. executive died Friday when a boulder crashed through the windshield of his vehicle while he and his family were driving back from Colorado. The Pitkin County Sheriff’s office said the accident happened about 4:40 p.m. Friday in Snowmass Canyon on Colorado State Highway 82 just west of milepost 28, near Aspen. The victim was identified as Thomas Murphy, 45, vice president of corporate brand marketing for Sprint. The Colorado State Patrol said a boulder the size of a briefcase fell off a mountain and crashed through the windshield of the family’s 2007 Chevy Tahoe. Murphy was knocked unconscious and his 11-year-old son Ethan sustained moderate injuries. Murphy’s wife, Jennifer, placed the Tahoe in neutral in hopes it would come to a stop while it was on a steep downhill trajectory, but authorities said it took more than a mile for her to bring the vehicle under control from the front passenger seat. Murphy was transported to Valley View Hospital in Glenwood Springs, where he was pronounced dead. Ethan Murphy was in stable condition. The Colorado highway patrol is investigating. Sgt. Rich Armstrong, public information officer for the patrol in Garfield, Pitkin and Eagle counties, said this is the first fatality involving a rock striking a vehicle for his troop this year. But he said such accidents happen fairly regularly. “Unfortunately, in my opinion, it’s too common,” Armstrong said. “It’s one of the hazards of driving in Colorado.”
source: http://www.kansascity.com/679/story/1385408.html?storylink=omni_popular How's that got to suck to be a way to go? Driving down the highway, and boom a boulder crashes in your windshield and hits you in the fuckin' face. Law enforcement says it happens commonly, but I've not yet heard of something like this happening.

I remember a school bus driver was killed when some douchebag kids dropped a brick off a bridge and it went though his windshield. It was on the same freeway I take to school every day too :tinfoil:
That's why they have yellow signs saying "Falling Rock". It happens more commonly than you might think.
The worst windshield crash that's ever happened around me was when me and my mate got seperated on different buses for a fieldtrip, and his while his bus was going down the highway, a turkey vulture slammed in the front windshield and hit a teacher. :v:
What a hard way to die
Reminds me of "Rocks fall everyone dies"... You won't get this unless you play That game...
They were mourning this in today's NASCAR race.
Can't stop the rock. Yeah that sucks, what a way to bloody go and in front of his family. Sad.
He also happened to be the Vice President of Marketing at Sprint/Nextel. Right now here's what happening: 1 person is dying from random boulder incident. This is what's happening NOW on the nation's largest 4G network.
^^And the most awful part of that joke is that he probably produced that commercial. D:
i guess it's one of the downsides to living there.

That sucks. Reminds me of an incident where one of those giant concrete blocks they use to build highways fell and killed a woman, while her husband was sitting next to her.
Down where I live a guy and his family were at the beach next to a cliff and half the fucking cliff collapses while the man was sitting and the rest of his family was in the water. What are the chances that you happen to be under a cliff when it collapses.
That's why they have yellow signs saying "Falling Rock". It happens more commonly than you might think.
What a useful sign. I mean honestly, what are you gonna do when you see one? Just keep driving and hope for the best.
I bet the police have a rock solid case.
That was a smashing incident
That was a smashing incident
I'm surprised there's no Austin Powers...
I guess it was a...smashing coincidence! [editline]11:29AM[/editline]
I'm surprised there's no Austin Powers...
^

Boulder accident that sounds like somebody was wrangling a boulder and lost control
How is a rock the size of a suitcase a "boulder"? I thought this: or this: was a boulder.

All i can say is unlucky
I believe this might have taken place in Boulder,Colorado.
Life comes tumbling down.
I believe this might have taken place in Boulder,Colorado.
No because boulder and aspen are miles apart and it clearly says Aspen is where it happened. hate to ruin a pun but you can't contradict facts. I would know, native Coloradoan. Also: I think we can all agree that Sprint was always a smashing hit.
