Everyone is complaining how cold it is and how they're gonna die because it's so cold. I'm here to tell you how to keep yourself warm in these "extreme" conditions. Part 1 Double everything Basically what I mean is that whatever clothes you put on you should double it. Double the socks, long johns, t-shirsts, sweaters and gloves. This way you'll be more tightly packed and you'll stay warm longer, because the cold can't penetrate all the layers. Depends on how cold it is of course. Part 2 Remember the accessories Hats, scarfs and all that jazz. They will save your life if it's really cold. Hats are very important because they keep the warmth in your body and scarfs just make you feel better because the wind isn't blowing through you because it has free access through your neck. Part 3 Be a ninja Yes, be a ninja. Follow those steps and practice untill you can make it with your eyes closed. That is deffinately a life saver if your face is starting to freeze. You breathe out warm air and because of that mask it warms up your whole face. Only bad side is that you can't use glasses with it because they will start to gather frost because of the warm air. Also your eyelashes WILL freeze up. So now you know all the neccessary steps on how to survive this damn winter. It's -22 celcius here at the moment and I am not scared to go out there, because I know how to keep myself warm.
I wear 4-5 thermal layers normally, and extra pants so my balls don't freeze. Keeps me warm and fertile.
Where thermals
i met a ninja once just kidding I dont know but my ass hurt afterwards
Where thermals
I don't know? I don't even know what those are, so you should probably check your dresser.
Whew I'm so glad it doesn'g get < -20 here Like right now it's like 6c
I ran for like 5km in a t-shirt and a light hoodie at -25 celsius in the mountains. It was exquisitely awesome but I got pneumonia.
I wear jeans outside even if it's -40 out. I am not a smart man.
Its -30c here, I still go out to play football
I work at an airport, so I'm always outside. Cold or hot; doesn't matter. The doubling up is the biggest tip ever. I've even worn thick pj's under my pants and stayed mildly warm in ~10* weather. Pro tip: a beard is nature's own scarf.
I live in California mofo, it never gets below like 25 degrees centigrade.

It's a little late for this considering it's halfway through February but the ninja mask thing was beneficial. I can use it if I get deployed too.
Keeps me warm and fertile.
Actually, the testes function better in the cold, which is exactly why they're outside of the body.
that ninja mask is not gonna work. as you learn in the army, never cover you mouth up. it will condensate and the moisture will freeze. making you even colder than you where.

Only -22C? Just wear the basic winter-clothing, that's all about it.
I wear a coat, a coat, a hoodie, a shirt, three more shirts, 2 pairs of pants, long john thermal wear things, 4 pairs of socks, and shoes. I live in Texas and we get like 20's at worst
My trick for staying warm in below freezing temperatures is to alternate pants. Get a few pairs of cheap cotton slacks, then get a pair of wool pants and finally another pair of cotton pants over the wool pants. All of this is pretty cheap, wool pants can be purchased from military surplus for about $10. The slacks trap a layer of air around your skin and then your body heat will heat this air, the wool prevents cold outside air from cooling the trapped warm air and the final layer of cotton pants keep water from soaking into the wool. You shouldn't need to wash the wool at all for the entire season. If you can keep your legs warm it becomes much easier to keep your entire body warm. You should also waterproof your shoes/boots, this can be done with some candle wax, which will work better than waterproofing spray as it gets into the seams and threads.
It's still winter for some of you? Spring has already begun in England.
*were
dick.
I have a balaclava, that shit is amazingly warm.
It's -50 here some days, I just wear a jacket and I'm fine for my 5 minute walk to school. Although walking any further I would want to wear a toque, gloves and something over my face.
I'll add something too this list... Learn from people who go fishing during Fall. Use plastic bags, and two pairs of socks. It'll waterproof your feet, and make it so you don't get frostbite in between your toes. Trust me... It sucks getting frostbitten between the toes.
-22 isn't that cold. Lowest temperature here was -24, I was walking about with no extra clothing than normal. Though, a little water in my hair froze.
It's still winter for some of you? Spring has already begun in England.
No it has definitely not. It was cold as fuck today. My trick to keeping warm is to wear one layer that warms you up, and another that stops the wind.
12 Celsius is "cold" in Southern California :D

Cotton twill or ripstop on the outside, flannel on the inside. Those are completely comfortable down to about -18 C. Beyond that just wear thermal underwear or a similar layer and you should be good for almost anything.

[editline]15th February 2011[/editline] Soaked clothing is bad, but the moisture in your breath isn't going to do that.
