• grandparents about to hit financial landmine

My grandparents have heard from their church pastor that: http://zeekrewards.com/ Is a great investment oppourtunity... Said pastor already has 400+ signed on under him and claims to make over 1000$ a day. Needless to say I am raising a MASSIVE eyebrow at this, I need to talk them out of this for their sake and mine but I can't do it alone. I need someone who knows what they are talking about, an intelligent person to come on here and bold-facedly say how this obviously crooked scheme is something to stay far away from. Help me Facepunch, you're my only hope. This is most likely the wrong section to post this, I am stupid.
So it's a pyramid scheme (well "multi-level marketing"). You should just look into some history and see how bad financially it is for the majority and show them examples and how this is the same thing.
All I can find are rosy cheeked reviews of people with fat wallets. Noone seems to be speaking up on this.
All I can find are rosy cheeked reviews of people with fat wallets. Noone seems to be speaking up on this.
Tons of fluff reviews are a pretty definitive sign that they are just scamming people. But that's usually the case anyway with these sites that claim you can make all this money online. Here's some interesting data from the Better Business Bureau which you might find to be useful: http://www.bbb.org/northwestern-north-carolina/business-reviews/multi-level-selling-companies/rex-venture-group-in-lexington-nc-12000422/ Hope all goes well for you and your grandparents.
The strangest thing is that he got slightly involved with a "penny auction" site not long ago, learning it from his friends he went into it with the mindset that it was a scam and that he would participate somewhat and find out exactly how it was. When he uncovered the scam he showed it to everyone and swore off getting into anything like it again. Now this company Zeek that the current problem involves has two buisness models, one of which is a penny auction! And the worst part of THIS is that when I overheard him talking about why he would get into it, because the pastor wouldn't tell him to get into it if it was wrong. Needless to say this infuriated and saddened me, this sucker of a priest goading his entire congregation at the end of a service into a crooked ponzi scheme. This whole situation sickens me and I was hoping that someone would either have had some experience with this company or companies like it, or have some insight on the inner workings of a business model like this.
have them check web of trust
What better to disprove than or this website mentioned in the episode http://pyramidschemealert.org/ if your grandparents dont want to see dildos and swearing

I showed them the first 2 minutes of penn and teller before he stopped me, citing it's vulgar language and sexual content against it's credibility. And besides that he seems adamant that it "isn't the same thing, because it's posting ads and not selling products"
Well, if nudity and vulgar language turn him off so big that they can't watch the show, then it's their loss. There are a lot of ways to earn money online that don't require an initial investment and sometimes they pay off, but other times they're a massive time waster and you end up getting close to nothing. If you're investing first, there's a very high risk you're losing more money than you're earning. I used to be in a GPT forum, where I met all sorts of people. You had the high rollers, that won like 3k a day, and then the ones that didn't earn shit and realized that you had to know a lot about a variety of subjects before you can start getting a good chunk of money. And assuming your grandparents don't know that much about the internet, they're not going to do that well. Here's also something that I'm assuming: The pastor only has high referrals (people recruited) because he's a fucking pastor and he has a herd of sheep at his disposal. So naturally other people that go to church and know and like him would also eagerly listen to and follow his words on any topic. But you know, that might not be the case at all either
Pitty, Penn and Teller are brilliant and kick "Multi-Level Marketing" to the curb
Do your grandparents not know that if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't true? I dunno man, they seem pretty set on it, and we've provided plenty of evidence on why it's bullshit. But if I were in your shoes here's what I'd tell them. Primarily, what the fuck do they think they're doing listening to their pastor about something that isn't related to church? I get that they're probably friendly and all and your grandparents look up to the pastor, but is the fact that their pastor trying to get them to sign up for a get-rich-quick website really not a red flag? Second, look at the contact information. Any business that requires a pin # for phone calls is probably not trustworthy and their skype information is... interesting. Finally it's called an "affiliate advertising division." Anything business related that's preceded by affiliate is usually bullshit, and I'm surprised your grandparents don't know this. Here's an alright video that's really mild in its content but describes affiliate advertising scams pretty well. Above all good luck OP, your grandparents don't deserve to be bankrupted by their fucking pastor.
pastors are bad people
Just tell them the pastor touched your no-no parts and they'll, hopefully, will not want anything to do with the guy.
A financial landmine is having your house fall off a cliff. Just remind them not to build their house near an advancing cliff line.

Is it even legal for the pastor to be doing this?
The fact that they want your name and e-mail in order for them to give you "more information" is sketchy. From what I read on their site it says you have to sell "VIP Bids". What are VIP bids and why would anybody want to buy them? Just tell them this is more work than it's worth. If they really want to make money, invest in an original business or start their own up that actually has a product that has much demand..
