It would be a whole different level of lunacy to kill a child because you thought they'd eaten something unhealthy.

Wasn't there already a similar pop tart incident, but instead they made their kid live outdoors for a week or so? There's some strange trend of having parents abuse kids for eating something that they've prohibited, and quite frankly it's such an overreaction, sure they need discipline for disobeying, but beating them to death and kicking them out of the house for extended periods of time are not the way to do it.
