• Macbooks and third-party chargers? "Not charging"

My charger broke, and I decided I DIDN'T want to spend 100 bucks on a new one, so I found a cheap third-party charger for 20 bucks. Bought it, came home, and it DOES boot the computer, and it says it's getting power from the adapter - but it says it's "Not charging". Does this have anything to do with the Mac refusing to accept it as a charger, or the adapter itself?
Depending what type of MacBook you have you may need a more powerful charger. The MacBook pro draws more power than the Air, and requires a different type of charger. Even the 15" and 17" Pro models require a different type of charger than the 13" one.
Sitting on a regular Macbook, no Air or Pro. Just the standard white ones. I'd say 2010 models most likely. I'm not sure, because I got this from my school. Also as of yesterday the computer doesn't start at all with the charger plugged in. I'm 10 bucks short of a different third-party charger even if I return this one. I also got a bill from the insurance company for 150 bucks due to this thing being on repair, so I can't exactly afford a proper Mac charger now anyway.
Had to return the charger. Got my money back, at least. Good thing these things have a monstrosity of a battery life. I won't necessarily have to charge it for 2-3 days.
Standard Macbook charger requires a 60W charger. What you had might have been a MBA charger which is 45W. Even a 15"/17" charger would do, which is 85W. It just tends to charge the Macbook faster which over a long period of time can potentially shorten battery life.
