I have no real issues whatsoever placing roads. Every now and then they will clip weirdly but actually playing them is easy and intuitive.
The biggest problem with the game is still city sizes. Even with the focus being on regional rather than single cities it's stifling.
Biggest disappointment and waste of money ever.

It's not perfect but I disagree with the articles assertion that EA hasn't "fixed" it. They have fixed a shitload of problems, just not all of them.

To put it another way, EA will never fix the fundamental problems with SimCity 5. Online & Small Cities, but they've fixed hundreds of bugs and really made the game significantly better.
I really am very pissed at EA for ruining such a brilliant franchise.
It's not really a city simulator, cities are bigger than 4 squared kilometers!, should have been called SimTown

One game doesn't ruin a franchise.
They seemed to have learned their lesson judging from the fact that The Sims 4 can be played offline, so perhaps SimCity 6 will be better.
I'm not sure if I ever expected them to fix it. :/
