What the fuck
90 dollars for beta access?
June through August: $90 for early alpha access, during the time where we're still locking down features and making tweaks to the flow of the game.
September through November: $60 for beta access. The game will be much more complete at this time
Shouldn't it be the opposite way around? Cheaper at first and then more expensive later?
Depends.
Arma 3 does this but this is basically kickstarter tier on Steam, so it makes sense.

Whats the last time you paid $90 for a non limited edition game.
It's probably so expensive to discourage the average joe from buying it in such an unfinished state. They want more people playing the full game than the alpha.
Guys.
This was a Kickstarter game - one of the tiers was $90 and you got Alpha Access, they are trying not to cheat out the people who funded the game at the start. It'll be $30 or something at release.
Someone's got the pricing method awfully wrong.
Or they're using it as a effective way of regulating the amount of players.

Possibly the latter.
Steam community hub for the game has exploded.
Blood everywhere, no survivors.
This is so dumb.
Why would anyone expect to get alpha access to a game for cheaper than the people who helped fund development?
What the fuck, you don't even get the exclusive bonuses that the kickstarter backers got.
i have to give this game a $90/10
was our Kickstarter money not enough
Cue swefox, "pre-ordered."
The point is to only get dedicated people with meaningful feedback in alpha.

THE FUCK
DOWN
Holy shit, just don't buy it now.
Is alpha access really that important to some people even though they probably wouldn't provide feedback anyway?
you shouldn't even bother buying it, it is in alpha with a reason, the game only barely works as of now, and is still missing almost all it's features. I guess they put it on steam to give people who were late at the kickstarter a chance to still jump in and support them.
Scummy devs, they're having their community mine bitcoins for them.

Too bad that was over a year and a half ago, before PA even existed.

What the people in the Steam hubs apparently can't grasp, is that it's not the only way to get the damn game.
If you don't want to spend $90 - for whatever reason, that doesn't matter - like the rest of the 8000+ Alpha guys (just from the kickstarter alone, not including the people that ordered from paypal, OR after the kickstarter ended and the store opened) then pre-order the game from Uber's store. It's $40 for a Game key, $60 for a Beta=>Game key, and $90 for Alpha=>Beta=>Game key. Plus you get all the varying levels of bonus stuff from the kickstarter as well.
Welp, I came into this thread saying "Oh cool, I have some money to spare".
Guess not.
There has been a lot of reaction to how our project has been priced to work within the constraints of respecting the people who made the entire project possible, our Early Backers/Kickstarters.
Our pricing for this stage of early access was determined by our Kickstarter. The stages of our early access for ALL users, which was determined during our Kickstarter, is:
June through August: $90 for early alpha access, during the time where we're still locking down features and making tweaks to the flow of the game.
September through November: $60 for beta access. The game will be much more complete at this time, but with a lot of balance work still to do and more optimizations to get it working on as many systems as possible.
Retail: December 2013
This is the pricing determined over a year ago. Our Kickstarter set these levels, and while we understand people may not like it, it's the decision we had to make.
But that is our schedule, if you want to wait until the price drops to a level you're more comfortable with.
Please feel free to discuss, but please stay respectful to others in the conversation.
Last post in the thread was in May, who's to say that they've stopped?
And I didn't say anything about PA, just saying that the devs are shady.
Though, their business practices with SMNC aren't that great either so I have almost no confidence in this game.
Apparently, Metacritic thinks reviewing an alpha makes sense. http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/planetary-annihilation

Yeah that makes sense and all but kickstarter teirs don't make sense for Steam's alpha funding and that's not what steam alpha funding is for
They shouldn't put their game up for sale on alpha funding until it's "cheap enough" for general populace to want to invest in
You can't just shoehorn what is basically a donation with a reward teir ($90) into a completely different pricing model that is basically "buy game that isn't complete now for cheaper"
Kickstarter is meant as a donation funding drive, and they just happened to make one of the donation teirs include the alpha. If they want to put the alpha by itself up for SALE then it shouldn't be treated like a donation (the $90 teir), and should instead be treated like a sale
If they feel like that'll somehow "betray" kickstarter people, then they honestly shouldn't try to shoehorn a previously established alpha model into another alpha model and expect it to be fine.
I'd rather they make it so they don't show up on Steam Early Access until mid beta starts, at an actual EARLY ACCESS price and let the people who actually donated to their reward teirs that let them in the closed beta have access to it
Reading those comments makes my head hurt.
It hurts to see the general population being this stupid.

No, to expensive.
Haha, get it, expensive.
