U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) has very strong feelings about Israel, and she's disappointed that American Jews don't have the same feelings she does.
In a Monday interview with Family Research Council President Tony Perkins, Bachmann chastised American Jewish organizations for backing off stronger sanctions against Iran over its nuclear weapons program. Right Wing Watch picked up on the congresswoman's comments Tuesday.
"The Jewish community gave him their votes, their support, their financial support and as recently as last week, 48 Jewish donors who are big contributors to the president wrote a letter to the Democrat senators in the U.S. Senate to tell them to not advance sanctions against Iran," Bachmann told Perkins.
The American Israel Public Affairs Committee, a pro-Israel lobby, changed course earlier this month and came out against a Senate vote on additional Iran sanctions.
"This is clearly against Israel’s best interest. What has been shocking has been seeing and observing Jewish organizations who it appears have made it their priority to support the political priority and the political ambitions of the President over the best interests of Israel," Bachmann added. "So in some respects, they sold out Israel."
Seventy percent of Jewish American voters picked President Barack Obama when he ran for reelection in 2012. J Street, a pro-peace lobbying group that supports a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, commissioned a poll that year which found that just 10 percent of Jewish American voters identified Israel as one of their top two voting issue priorities. Bachmann further alleged that “President Obama has allowed Israel to realize its worst nightmare” by “threatening Israel.”
She agreed with Perkins’ claim that Obama is forcing Israel to “surrender,” and said that Israel “couldn’t stand” under a two-state solution.
She said that the Bible predicted Obama’s actions: “The nations of the world will come against Israel and the scripture very specifically says all nations, now for the United States we don’t have that experience until recently under President Obama with the United States not standing with Israel.”
In a previous interview with Perkins, she said that Obama and Secretary of State John Kerry are “calling for actual war and economic war against Israel, or at least suggesting it as such.”

Did the bible also predict the gradual massacre & displacement of Palestinians?
Good to see that the Republicans still see the separation of church and state as a vague suggestion.

Coming from a very conservative Christian family, I can tell you that the rhetoric is that we should support Israel no matter what. Apparently this somehow justifies Israel's actions.
Regardless of one's personal opinion on whether we should support Israel or not, it seems pretty unlikely that a two-state solution to the Palestine problem will cause Israel's UTTER DOOM or something scary like that.
Some people just choose to see Israel not getting its way 100% of the time as 'Israel being attacked'. Which is silly.
Let's base national/foreign policy on the bible.
That's some crackpot theocratic ideology right there.
I hate hearing about this woman and I wish people would stop giving her attention. This isn't about the article being posted, it's about the fact that what she said made news at all. It's embarrassing.
Why are you a fucking politician
Why the fuck are you even allowed anywhere near a position of power?
Fucking A, lady.
Good to see that the Republicans still see the separation of church and state as a vague suggestion.
A vague suggestion? No, they see it as outright blasphemy, and will attempt to combat such a notion until they can no longer win elections.
I'm not certain its possible for her to open her mouth without thousands of boxes [del]flying[/del] falling out
"And then that nigger Obongo would bringeth communism to our god given United States." - Peter 4:16
None of the "prophecies" of the bible amount to anything more than common sense.
Of course people will question the book at some point, especially with lack of evidence.
Of course people will disagree on interpretations of a pick-and-choose assortment of scriptures and become "false teachers".
Of course there will be "war, famines, and disasters in the end times", there's always war, famines, and disasters.
Of course every nation will rise against Israel at some point or another, as well with other nations.
There isn't anything remotely insightful there. They are vague and guaranteed to come true, that doesn't prove anything. It would be akin to me saying "The sun will rise tomorrow."
Why do people put stock in this? Would I be considered a prophet back then for making such an uninteresting statement?
Self-fulfilling prophecies are always fun. It would be practically impossible for the US to never turn against Israel. It will happen eventually.
On top of that, the US didn't exist when the bible was written (and nobody ever even expected it to - the people who wrote the bible never even knew the entire continent existed). It was written to scare the nations of the world into aligning with Israel. It's painfully obvious.
On a philosophical note, if we were to align with Israel forever, wouldn't that be staving off the biblically-predicted, predestined end times, thus going against God's will?
The nations of the world will come against Israel and the scripture very specifically says all nations
No shit, because they treat the Palestinians as if they're sub-humans inhabiting unclaimed territory. You have a house there? We have a bulldozer there. You run a shop? We walled off the roads. You need drinking water? Goldman needs to water his lawn.
The nations of the world turned against Israel because Israel is a right cunt.

But that would be using logic.

People voted for her. Are you saying that these people's votes shouldn't be respected?
People voted for her. Are you saying that these people's votes shouldn't be respected?
not if she's bringing religion into politics
[editline]5th March 2014[/editline]
er, not that their votes shouldn't count, but that she should be fired.
So basically she's setting it up to idiots that if America finally caught on to the Israeli Govt.'s Horsecrap recently, then it's "The sign of the end times".
Why are Americans this deluded anyway
i am amazed that people actually believe that Armageddon would happen cause we didn't protect israel.
Yeah, she's right you guys, it's right there. Right next to where it talks about the iraq war and it's psalm about drones....

And the lord spoketh unto joseph, "verily thou shalt enter the halls of DARPA where thou shalt forge a pneumatic powered exoskeleton"
And yea did Joseph speak unto the press, "I am ironman". Amen.

I'm kinda suprised this is an issue. A president who does something for his own nation as opposed for the interests of a foreign one.

Hey, at least that'd make it consistent! I mean some lawmakers already base their policies on gay rights, abortion, education, and scientific research based on the Bible, mind as well just base everything else on the Bible too!

actually let's base it on the Koran it has a really good track record
Why are Americans this deluded anyway
Damn Fins being so deluded about the fact that not every American is Michelle Bachmanns level of stupid
This woman has made me internally replace the phrase "politically correct" to "politically insane"
She got gerrymandered out of my neighborhood. Thankfully.
Armageddon is inevitable.
i dont know anyone, republican or not, who takes her seriously anyway
i dont know anyone, republican or not, who takes her seriously anyway
too many
I don't fucking get it. I just. Don't. Get it. You've got a nation that likes to tell itself its the greatest country on earth, where everyone has access to so-called first-world opportunity and free education, so much access to technology and information that you simply won't find in places in the Middle East, and what you find instead is that a large portion of the population - People actually in places of political and social power and influence - are deluded retards living in a fantasy so detached from reality it's like they're speaking Greek. People like Bachmann are no better in any way from the theocrats who run places like Saudi Arabia and Iran.
