Israeli Intelligence Furious Over Trump’s Loose Lips As the U.S. president heads to Israel for a show of unity, the country’s spies are alarmed at his disclosures to the Russians. http://foreignpolicy.com/2017/05/19/israeli-intelligence-furious-over-trumps-loose-lips-russia-iran-syria/
Just days before President Donald Trump’s arrival in Tel Aviv, Israeli intelligence officials were shouting at their American counterparts in meetings, furious over news that the U.S. commander-in-chief may have compromised a vital source of information on the Islamic State and possibly Iran, according to a U.S. defense official in military planning.

White House officials are touting Trump’s visit to Israel next week as a chance to show U.S. solidarity with its closest Middle East ally after eight years of friction between former President Barack Obama and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. But behind the public display of harmony, Israeli intelligence officers are angry and alarmed over sensitive information revealed by the U.S. president in a May 10 meeting in the White House with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov and Ambassador Sergey Kislyak. Trump divulged classified information gathered by Israel about specific terrorist plotting by the Islamic State. The information reportedly revealed Islamic State advances in bomb-making that could be used to mask an explosive device inside a laptop, and also referenced the city where the unfolding plot was being hatched. The details Trump spilled likely came from a source that was also useful on Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and its Hezbollah proxies in Syria and Lebanon, which are much higher priorities for Israel, the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said.
That's going to make for some awkward dinner conversation...
What's more awkward is that during this trip, his speech about Islam is written by the guy who wrote the travel ban This is going to be a great week
When will the bad times go away?
Israel takes US military technology and sells it, and they're pissed Trump merely mentioned one single security issue? Fuck off Israel
Israel takes US military technology and sells it, and they're pissed Trump merely mentioned one single security issue? Fuck off Israel
He put the life of their operatives in danger, they have every damn right to be pissed. And if intel is classified, it's that way for a reason not for Trump to spout it off to the allies of Israel's enemies in the Middle East.
It's within his presidential power to declassify as he wishes, from what I understand.
This isn't an issue of legality.
It's within his presidential power to declassify as he wishes, from what I understand.
It's also within his presidential power to nuke China without asking for anyone's permission. Doesn't make it right and doesn't mean people shouldn't be angry.
Israel takes US military technology and sells it, and they're pissed Trump merely mentioned one single security issue? Fuck off Israel
You can't stoop to the same level and expect to still be the higher man, that's just silly. If they're selling tech, then just don't give it to them, not, y'know, endanger agents lives over something like this for no good reason. Of course they're going to be angry, them stepping on your foot isn't the same as slapping them on their face. They're not equivalent and each person is going to think they're on the worse side of it no matter what. [editline]20th May 2017[/editline]
It's within his presidential power to declassify as he wishes, from what I understand.
This has nothing to do with legality here. You can legally call your spouse a 'fuckin retarded bitch' all you want, but they're under no obligation to stay married to you. There are consequences for one's actions, and Trump has chosen to hurt the US's connections with intelligence communities across the planet, let alone Israel's relationship with the US.
It's within his presidential power to declassify as he wishes, from what I understand.
Good job completely missing why this is a scandal
It's within his presidential power to declassify as he wishes, from what I understand.
Technically legal is the best sort of legal
It's within his presidential power to declassify as he wishes, from what I understand.
It was also within Clinton's power to declassify documents as she wished, too
The information reportedly revealed Islamic State advances in bomb-making that could be used to mask an explosive device inside a laptop, and also referenced the city where the unfolding plot was being hatched.
This has been around for awhile now. The gist of it is that explosives can be easily hidden if they are made into a cylinder. Main reason for this is that most security checkpoints for stuff like TSA are fairly incapable of detecting things that do not have hard edges. At the same time certain parts of laptops can easily be used to mask the explosive content as it's fairly if not nigh impossible to tell the difference in Xrays with certain parts. It doesn't say much though considering most people can get a weapon onto a plane about 95% of the time.

The problem is that he revealed the specific location where the bombing was being planned, which compromises the security of the agent that revealed the plot to begin with.
holy fuck, how does someone not abandon this forum and move to reddit under a different alias after getting humiliated like this
Trump voters are being humiliated by the president on a daily basis already, this is like throwing a pebble at a wall.
A TERRIFIC WALL
Ultimately "but it is legal!" is a the most basic and flimsy defense when talking about actions, because it implies that it is the only merit of the action. Trump's blabbermouthing hurt US' standing with intelligence communities and will probably harm the co-operation since foreign countries will most likely be less inclined to share sensitive information, plus in this case it harmed an actual operation.
Israel takes US military technology and sells it, and they're pissed Trump merely mentioned one single security issue? Fuck off Israel
If this is the case, we should have never signed an intelligence agreement with Israel. HOWEVER, we did and we've not only grossly violated that agreement but put an ally operative's safety in jeopardy. This is unacceptable for any nation and if Israel chose to they would be in their rights to terminate the agreement. This will also make other allies extremely cautious about sharing with us in the future. When the big boy pants get thrown on there's no room for spite, stay the course on contracts or lose business partners to a more reliable entity.

In the few public cases that it happened it was usually a case of differing interpretations as to what Israel can and can't sell according to its agreements with the US, and when the US puts its foot down regarding specific deals (like the infamous spy plane contract with China) the deal gets cancelled and a couple of heads here roll. The US also occasionally forces Israel to abort deals they don't like even if they have no American technology in them.
Personally I think this is hilarious because I think Israel is one of the most useless allies we have who has taken from us far more than they've given back. Our relationship with them can eat shit as far as I'm concerned.
What are strategic allies?
Personally I think this is hilarious because I think Israel is one of the most useless allies we have who has taken from us far more than they've given back. Our relationship with them can eat shit as far as I'm concerned.
I'm sure your more useful allies won't see this and maybe reconsider their relationships with the States. But an ability to see beyond the immediate is not something the Trump administration or its supporters are able to grasp.

This childish recklessness and lack of foresight are Trump's driving force as well. And that recklessness won't just damage relations with Israeli intelligence, specifically (something that should be obvious from the get go, but I guess Fox News won't tell you that)
