A cat that had been stuck in a South Dubuque street tree for several days is now out.
Iowa City Police officer Gabe Cook said Jeff Waite of Hawkeye Sewer and Drain got the cat out of the tree at 703 S. Clinton St. The cat had been there since Thursday.
Cook said Waite retrieved the cat using a cherry picker-style lift that he and Goosetown Painting rented from Aero Rental. Cook estimated the cat was at least 30 feet up the tree.
Iowa City Police Sgt. Troy Kelsay said the cat would be taken to the city’s animal control and adoption facility because officers did not know who owns the cat and the cat had bitten at least one would-be rescuer.
Kelsay said there were at least two attempts to retrieve the cat on Sunday. In one attempt, a person simply tried to climb the tree. In the second attempt, a ladder was used. In both instances, the cat retreated further up the tree, Kelsay said. Citing safety concerns, Kelsay said he ordered a community service officer to instruct other potential rescuers not to climb the tree.
Cook said the cat was “a little agitated,” but did not bite Waite. The cat has some upper respiratory issues.
I figured we could use some good news instead of all this dreary "Mother kills children", "Police Abuse", "Family tortured", "Santorum blah blah".
In other news, one cat was smashed by car on the road.
God damn it, pussy
Thank god we finally got closure to the biggest news story from this year.

STORY OF THE YEAR EVERY YEAR
JANUARY 17th 2012, NEVER FORGET
we don't care
Too bad it wasn't in Rhode Island.
wow
Good to see that the cat's okay. Especially considering how it's been up there for a few days.
Why the hell do cats need to be rescued from trees? They climb there and then can't even climb back, jeez.

... With commentary by Bill O'Reilly.
Slow news day again?
what a pussy
I'm glad he was saved, I see so many cat skeletons in trees I know he was in great danger of dying up there.
Also, "Cherry picker gets pussy" would have been a great headline.
Ho ho, them cats. When will they learn?
Smart cat, he probably saw Santorum nearby.
