When I began looking back at 2008, it had been more than four full years since I had left GTMO, and I was more unhappy than I had been while I was there, torturing and abusing presumably innocent men in the name of freedom and security. My guilt and remorse for my actions had grown to such a degree that I no longer wanted to live, and no longer wanted to remember their screams and cries. Willing to do anything to get GTMO out of myself, I reached out to Cage Prisoners, an organization in the United Kingdom that provides information about the Guantanamo detainees: why they were there, where they came from and other biographical details revealing that these men were human, too. The group was more than willing to interview me and ask me every question that occurred to them about my experience in GTMO. After that interview my life took a new direction, one with a more dignified purpose: I set out to reach as many Americans as I could to inform them of the grave injustice that I saw, participated in and was aware of in GTMO.

Skinny Puppy is an industrial music group based in Vancouver, British Columbia. They’ve been recording and performing as long as I’ve been alive, and their music had woven itself into the soundtrack of my life. Unbeknownst to them, I had heard their music while I was in GTMO; the songs, which I’m pretty sure came from a bootleg called “Heaven's Trash,” were used as the musical score for a torture session conducted by intelligence agents, one of whom was a hulking fellow that some of us had nicknamed Ogre.
...
I felt a real sense of accomplishment after Skinny Puppy embarked on their 2014 tour and sent off the invoice for $666,000 to the Defense Department and the Defense Intelligence Agency. I had set out alone in 2009 to reach the American people, and now, in 2014, I am part of an ongoing effort of people who are trying to make a difference in the world we live in. On top of that, I got to meet and work with my favorite band, and spread the word about the deep injustices that are occurring in our own backyard. This is proof that one person can make a difference — and you can, too.

Music as a means of torture is nothing new, but billing the government seem to be bring a lot of publicity to the issue (as well as to the band and to their music).
Probably should have used an NSFW thread image because of that pic on the left.

Your risk. If you're so worried leave facepunch till ya get home.
How bad could the song be that they would need to use it for torture?

oooh
or I'm at work and it's not safe for work.
Well considering all the swearing on facepunch, I'd not be viewing it at work anyways.

Is there a suggestion box at gitmo that lets base workers submit songs for a torture lotto? surely someone could have done better.
They transcend traditional music genres
the story started gaining momentum after an interview with Skinny Puppy band member cEvin Key appeared in the Phoenix News Times on Jan. 25.
Key characterized the invoice as an abstract concept behind their latest album, which was released in May. He specified: "We never sent it. The album cover is the invoice. The original impetus of recording the album was those two concepts: the torture and the invoice."
But by Feb. 5, Key had changed his story. Here's what he told CTV this week: "At first we were going to make an album cover that was based on an invoice for the U.S. government for musical services for what they had done... At that point we had been coached that we should probably actually bring a suit agains the Department of Defense for illegally using our music... We did send them an invoice."
The Department of Defense says it hasn't received anything of the sort from Skinny Puppy.
I agree Till is better but Skinny Puppy has been around for quite a while, longer than Rammstein for any matter. A lot of industrial bands have had dark images going on, Rammstein pulls it off so so much better. But here's something from the 1980's:

Oh how I wish I could have seen Nivek Ogre and Kevin Cey and the other Ogilivie back in their hayday.

yes people listen to this "crap"
it's not post music though?
Could have just had a live session of Throbbing Gristle playing ad nauseam, beats any of Skuppy's early works in terms of insanity.

taste is subjective. and how is it post-music at all. i don't think you can get there since if it was any noise, or lack thereof (4:33), and people wanted to "hear" it, it would still be music.
sent off the invoice for $666,000
Even the bill is metal
is skinny puppy the only music that the US pirated for torture?

This is straight up terrifying
Surely Islamic fundamentalists would have a harder time dealing with something like this

Industrial is pretty tame by comparison

This would be pretty good music to torture most people
I honestly used to go to bed to this.
I don't think it's the screaming itself that gets to people, or the metal.
Listen to that heaven's trash thing, it's terrifying for other reasons. Now imagine listening to that for hours on end.
By screaming I of course mean regular screamo whatever that still sounds like music
People actually listen to this crap?
Listen? I used to dance to this stuff.

That was out around the same time as The Cure's 'Kiss Me Kiss Me Kiss Me' album was out and pop was vomiting all over itself over Lionel Richie. Skinny Puppy was less difficult to listen to by contrast.

Skinny Puppy's still around?
Cool beans, I use to listen to them a bunch a few years ago
I want to know how one goes about negotiating a legit contract to have your music used for torture.
