A gold-rush has started at a beach in Kent where a German artist buried £10,000 worth of bullion as part of an arts festival.
"There are 30 gold bars buried there, along with a lot of washers, so if you bring your metal detector you will find a lot of washers before you find any gold

A treasure hunt!
Where a beach will be full of people :v
reminds me of the concept in the Crystal maze's dome where you had gold and silver tickets, but there each silver ticket counted as a negative towards the final score.
Those are some small bars of gold! A single normal bar would cost over 300,000 pounds.
Its now technically buried treasure therefore it belongs to the Queen.

Gold is currently around £27 per gram, so 12.3 grams each
What if he didn't actually bury any gold just to fuck with people. Maybe that's his intent. He's displaying how people are only coming to art festival due to greed opposed to wanting to see art.

Honestly that's great as conceptual art piece.
Wait, but

If it's real gold with some degree of purity, it's not ferromagnetic. it's possible to catch it with a specialized detector but it's nothing like iron washers. If you take a rudimentary metal detector, you will only get washers. If you get something that can catch gold, you will probably be able to distinguish washers from it.

Metal detectors in general rely on magnetic interference rather than simple attraction to find metals.

There are metal detectors that give feedback based on the size and type of metal of the object it detects using phase responses. The technology has come a long way from just a stick that beeps when it sees any kind of metal.
It would be really artistic if someone gave 10,000 quid to a random stranger on the internet.
Who would say that doing such a thing would be really artistic.

If someone gave me £10,000 randomly I'd call them whatever the fuck they wanted.

I would suck their dick for 10k
I'll save everyone some math: Each of these 'bars' of gold is equivalent to 0.64 cubic centimeters
So about 1x1.3x0.5 centimeters in measurement
huh, aint too far away
brb guys
3 bars have been found, and they are small, they look like this:

They look like... Scrabble tiles.

He's a conceptual artist, and I can tell you from first hand experience that all conceptual artists are round the twist.
just wait for one night when a bunch of guys with a big water jet pump come by and just blast away the entire beach

But what if people accidentally do find gold on the beach that wasn't put there by you?
Don't most decent quality metal detectors let you filter out certain types of metal?
Unless the washers are gold too.
Better picture of the size as another's been found:

size of the gold doesn't really matter
gold bullion doesn't come in the giant bricks you see in movies, that to me looks like a 1 ounce piece which means it's worth like $1,300

I want to eat it. Is that bad?

They'd have a much more appealing aesthetic if they used these gold bars:

Idiots just digging around a beach willy-nilly.
Don't they know that X marks the spot?

Imagine if people went around drawing big X's on the beach and watched people try to dig for treasure underneath them.
