7 January 2011 A Glasgow theatre has had to change a pantomime costume after being told it was breaking the Geneva Convention. The dress worn by Nurse Poltis in the Pavilion Theatre production of Robin Hood originally had red crosses on the hat and tunic. These were changed to green crosses after the British Red Cross informed the theatre it was breaking the law and could face prosecution. Unauthorised use of the emblem violates the Geneva Conventions Act 1957. The British Red Cross said it had contacted the Pavilion Theatre over the use of a red cross on a nurse's costume in the pantomime, The Magical Adventures of Robin Hood. Panto villain A spokesman for the humanitarian organisation said: "We have no desire to be the villains of the pantomime or to appear heavy handed, but we do have a very serious obligation to protect the Red Cross emblem. "The emblem is a special sign of neutrality and protection recognised by all sides during armed conflicts. "Misuse of that emblem - even when done in an innocent and light-hearted manner - has to be addressed. Repeated and widespread misuse of the Red Cross emblem could dilute its neutrality and its ability to protect. "When we contacted the theatre management, they quickly changed the cross on the nurse's costume to green and we applaud them for that."
Tomato Sauce in the shape of a Red Cross Yes, because we can't have anyone thinking that the guy in the dress is an ACTUAL Red Cross person and thus can't be shot at or bombed.
this is quite stupid.
Doesn't that only apply during war time?
yes, you are free to cull red crosses at any time unless a conflict is currently happening in the location.
Wait so you can't wear a red cross on a nurse/doctors outfit? (was gunna post nurse outfit from google) Wow all the outfits have white crosses. I am suprised.

When I first read this I expected a midget being tortured by a man in drag! This is just a huge waste of time.
Funfact: The england football team's flag is a red cross on a white background
Thats insulting that you would say its our football flag.
Funfact: The england football team's flag is a red cross on a white background In hundreds of years of football there has not been one complaint Red cross wants monnee
Uh, oddly enough the English flag isn't the Red Cross symbol. and it would be slightly odd if they sued us for using you know, OUR OWN FLAG
Well...
Aww fuck I always had an idea of just dressing all the military with medic uniforms to prevent the enemy from shooting, didn't know the Geneva Convention had that covered.
Funfact: The england football team's flag is a red cross on a white background
That's their ACTUAL flag.
Britain predates the Red Cross, and the emblems are subtley different.
Funfact: The england football team's flag is a red cross on a white background In hundreds of years of football there has not been one complaint Red cross wants monnee
Probably because that's England's real flag.
Geneva convention is pretty dumb....eventually one side will ignore it.
Geneva convention is pretty dumb....eventually one side will ignore it.
That's not really a reason to say 'fuck it'. That's also why we have the ICJ and such, to punish people who simply ignore the conventions.
Huh, so that's why those sexy nurse outfits don't have Red Crosses on them Not that I would know, you understand
Good thing they are focusing on them and not my Zyklon B powered landmine cannon.
