In a panel at PAX East this weekend, witnessed by Polygon, Riot game engineer George Skleres claimed that it isn’t anonymity that turns players into “jerks”, but rather a lack of consequences.
It's a bit of both. And the entire community of LoL isn't toxic. I'm very willing to believe that more than half of them are "sportsmanlike" as they put it here. The sad thing is that 1 toxic player equals 5 sportsmanlike players when it comes to the impact they have on a game.
LoL and Dota both seem like really fun games but the communities make it really hard to enjoy the game. I tend to not like being berated for every wrong move I make. If all the people I play with are so great at the game why can't they give me advice instead of insulting me the whole time? They'll do that or tell me to 'play bot matches' which I don't really understand. I want to train against humans not AI.

From what I've seen personally, you have around a 50/50 chance of getting either dickheads or nice / decent people. It's definitely not all bad.

(metaphorically :v:) The thing is, games like LoL can bring legitimate anger and instinctively all you wanna do is yell at someone to let off some steam. It's like when you wanna yell FUCK as loud as you can when you just can't take an annoyance anymore. Also some times the mistake is so obvious you begin to wonder if they really do have a learning disability. This is coming someone who rages a lot, I don't have the best self control but I can contain my rage enough that I end up being condescending at best.
I dunno I have LoL and DOTA 2 and the users always come across as rude know it all, sucks being a new player to these elitist games.
of course theyre gonna be sportsmanlike cause you get banned for being rude now what a bunch of fucking pussies who complain about being berated, just deal with it
It depends in part how shit you are at the game. When I play with my friends who are really bad, I get a whole trainload of leavers, afks, and assholes. When I play alone, I get the occasional douchebag. When I play with my friends who are diamond rated, everyone works together pretty well and is friendly. It seems like it's the same in dota 2 because every game I played starting off at the bottom was like a train of "fk jews" "afk" "faggot mangina" :v:
The only time I am ever 'Toxic' is when someone is literally doing the stupidest things, you calmly tell them what they're doing wrong, and then they blame you for doing poorly. Best example is a Darius in League who built physical resist against Veigar. We told him to stop it and he didn't. Then he bitched us out when we lost.
of course theyre gonna be sportsmanlike cause you get banned for being rude now what a bunch of fucking pussies who complain about being berated, just deal with it
You can actually get banned for saying someone sucks now, which is retarded. Especially if they actually do.
Why would you say that someone sucks, though? How would that help anyone?
You can actually get banned for saying someone sucks now, which is retarded. Especially if they actually do.
You are part of the problem.
Facepunch - Political Correctness, Love, Tolerance & Friendship fuck off
LOL!
From what I've seen personally, you have around a 50/50 chance of getting either dickheads or nice / decent people. I had some decent fun in DOTA 2 but there is always the chance you end up with an asshole.
League of Legends is probably the least toxic out of all the most popular mobas these days.
I've generally found in this type of game the higher you get up the matchmaking tiers the less asshole-y the community is. Most of the shitheads are probably terrible at the game.
League of Legends is probably the least toxic out of all the most popular mobas these days.
It's hard to say that because it depends a lot on what bracket of play you're in. Most angry/childish people get stuck in low rankings, so you're less likely to be with them in higher levels of play - so how do you decide which game has the least toxic players? By percentage of toxic players or toxic players that can actually play, and you have to deal with them no matter how well you do?
It's really the design of the game that causes tension between players.
It's really the design of the game that causes tension between players.
I find it's this. In most games if someone screws up, you can laugh about it because it doesn't really affect you. But in MOBAs if someone on your team feeds, it screws you over because you have to play for at least 20 minutes or risk getting banned against opponents that end up much stronger than you.
You are part of the problem.
I didn't sign up for a Disney World game. If I get pissed off and some retarded asshole is ruining the game on purpose or not and I say, Jeez you suck, after he totally messed up something, I could get banned for that. Dota 2 is alot more mature in the fact that people don't get teared up over a little comment/a moment of anger, where LoL is like a kiddy fanbase.

Newsflash: you are the child - adults don't rage at their teammates for not doing well.
I don't randomly get angry for people not doing well, everyone has bad games. There's a huge difference between, having a bad game and being appalling at it and it gets worse when they think they're hot shit.
You guys actually flipping your shit because someone said someone else sucks at a game they probably do suck at What do you want him to do suck their dick and thank them for wasting the last 20-50 minutes of your life you could've spend having fun or something [editline]25th March 2013[/editline] So do any of you who are crying about how people are big meanies actually play these games? If not then I suggest you go play and you get good at a game like this and try to enjoy it, then realise how annoying it is when shitters refuse to learn or reply to you and insult you for trying to help, but of course its all on us because we should be putting up with it and helping them for the good of the community :))) Lets all hold hands and get along

All you achieve is further upsetting people and ruining the game more. I'm not gonna pretend people haven't gotten to me before, but even when somebody's sucking hard and being obnoxious about it I still do my best to be friendly. Not quite sure how you'd suck someone's dick through their monitor but either way I'd say that's pretty unnecessary. Nobody's asking anybody to send anybody gift basket's here, just to not act like a 12 year old on call of duty and say shit like "HEY FAGET U SUK".
Coming from a mellow guy who hardly never rages, LoL and Dota 2 are frustrating at times, but I never get mad about it. There's something about letting the consequences over whether you win or lose in the hands of your teammates very unnerving, which some people just can't handle. I used to play Dota 2 with a guy who would judge you on everything you did - if you overextended even slightly, you're doing it wrong, and he would judge you for it. He would also watch games that I was in, and tell me I was awful afterwards, even if we won. Not to mention both games have giant skill caps and take lots of strategy/learning on your own.

"You suck" You're fucking blowing this way out of proportion, get over yourself.

Sounds like Chatroulette, aka a bad idea. Playing only with Steam friends makes it like Skype instead
