a nonfictional sherlock holms [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] thats what you are nvidia
Who photoshopped that image that's just terrible
I bet they're saying this because they didn't get any of the contracts for the consoles.
I bet they're saying this because they didn't get any of the contracts for the consoles.
Still not wrong.
Was it ever?
Was it ever?
Did you even read the article
You know why they call it the Mustard Race? [sp]because consoles need to ketchup[/sp]
Aww. I only had 2 minutes to do it :(
it's shit ur shit DIE.
I don't recall the PS2 being faster than a PC or having better graphics on release... GTA 3 and Vice City looked terrible on it I remember them being both blurry as shit compared to the PC version and having like a 10m draw distance with lots of pop in too
The consoles have power budgets of only 200 or 300 Watts, so they can put them in the living room, using small fans for cooling, yet run quietly and cool.
My PS3 is fucking deafening, even when dusted out and well ventilated, and only playing a DVD! Agree with the article 100% though.
Yeah but at least consoles are going to be aiming for 1080p 60 fps. And that is good enough for me when the ps4 is only going to be $450. Some people just can't afford gaming rigs off the bat that make PC gaming more worth it than these next-gen consoles. My excuse for PC gaming used to be 1080p and better performance. But now unless you are ready to shell out a lot of money to get wayyy better graphics then it all comes down to preference. To me the big incentive for PC gaming during the next-gen is going to be this oculus rift stuff, along with modding but I am afraid modding is starting to die really fast with newer games. Unless some huge PC exclusive game comes down along the line in the next few years but honestly that is really rare and uncommon now that consoles are kind of dictating the good exclusives.
This is pretty obvious, pc can always surpass console. You only need the funds and right hardware, considering that consoles are rather cheap compared to pcs. I like both. I just wished that more console titles would have a better framerate, I dont mind grahpics as much as long as the framerate is good.
"louder, more power-consuming, more expensive things are more powerful" -nvidia, still butthurt that AMD got to sell their graphics chips to all three eight gen consoles
It's still nice for people like us to have a voice with Nvidia.
I have always liked Nvidia, used them for a while, not that I dislike AMD or anything, I just prefer Nvidia. Gogo PC gaming, will always be onboard, consoles could never, ever surpass the experience, that's why I built my rig. [editline]25th September 2013[/editline]
I bet they're saying this because they didn't get any of the contracts for the consoles.
Why should they even care. They make the best high end PC parts out there, nothing that could be shoved in a console.

[editline]25th September 2013[/editline] imo
PCGamesN's mspaint skills are getting better and better

[editline]25th September 2013[/editline] imo
I would tend to agree, we have reached a point where massive jumps in graphics technology aren't really a thing, diminishing returns. Graphically it has been more about the more subtle effects, like Tesselation, AO and AA improvements, and newer iterations on lighting effects. But PC gaming recently has been more about smoother framerates as a focus, better multiplayer stability and latency, and I would say there has also been a focus on more mechanically complex games in general on PC.
Mid-high range Gaming PC setups have always been very closely matched with the console releases - 8 bit era on consoles (1985) saw VGA graphics on PC shortly after (1987), and from then on the matchups were generally within the same year: 16 bit and SVGA (1989), PS1/N64 and the first 3DFX Voodoo discrete graphics card (1996), PS2/XBOX and the first graphics cards supporting shader architectures (end 2000-early 2001), etc. There's never been any contest.

I really don't give a flying fuck. Everyone complaining about consoles holding back gaming are actually idiots since Cryengine and Unreal 4 are literally just fuck loads of effects layered on top of everything. Not actual advancement.

this is pretty wrong. when the xbox 360 came out it didn't just "match a mid-level gaming pc" it was far better, the GPU inside of the thing was more powerful than any gpu... ever. for like, a year and a half. the cpu even was one of the most powerful. the ram is the only thing that the xbox didn't match the only reason the PS4 and Xbox One aren't more powerful is because they did not see the need to invest so heavily in power this generation, it's not that it's impossible, it's just they wanted to sell the console at the smallest loss. I know sony/microsoft are never going to do again what the 360 and PS3 did, because it takes to much investment, but it's not literally impossible for them to. just nvidia being butthurt about not getting in any consoles
Moores law.. Duh Other wise consoles would either have to become modular or release more frequently. I'm guessing they will become modular [editline]25th September 2013[/editline]
please mr.graphics professional, explain to me what the last advancement was, and why real-time global illumination is not an advancement.
Uh he's talking about actual technical advancement. You know, things actually applicable to gameplay. He's saying graphics have been holding back innovation in other areas, and I agree. Although it's starting to focus less on pretty rays and more on crowd AI and dynamic physics based animation systems. Like how the last of us and bioshock infinite really only looked pretty and were otherwise average games. [editline]25th September 2013[/editline] Or hitman absolution... Focus on graphics are what ruined that game [editline]25th September 2013[/editline]
please mr.graphics professional, explain to me what the last advancement was, and why real-time global illumination is not an advancement.
Because in the end what the flying fuck does real time global illumination have to do with making the game more fun to play? That isn't rhetorical. Someone, give me a straight up answer as to How ray tracing, tessilation, ambient occlusion: techno babble babble babble, make a game any more fun to play. And don't say immersion. You're staring at a screen. Really graphics have fuck all to do with immersion if you ask me. Dwarf fortress is insanely immersive, and it doesn't even have graphics. I don't want to make any more assholish remarks but really. People who think graphics means much if anything are like people who get bored. You only really ever get bored if you're boring. That is to say its shallow to think graphics have anything to do with how fun a game is.
