she, is a one person electroic producer from Poland, who is actually a he named Lain Trzaska. Why the name and prolific female avatar? Well...
I have always had an interest in design and illustration. It came a time in my life where the question got asked: “Should I improve my drawing and aim for a drawing/design carrier or should I aim for a music one?” Drawing and designing has always been something I really enjoyed doing. Yet, I couldn’t simply let the music go. So I decided to start a new project. This “project” was based upon the idea that the characters and stories I created could be colored by the music I do. Different albums would be different characters in different situations/locations and the sounds and music would communicate the characters feelings and create a story. Returning sounds and melodies would hint at interaction between characters from other albums and somewhere in there, the listener would find himself creating images and events in his head, completing the story. It just happened that the first character was a girl and I didn’t have a “band name” so I chose ‘she‘ for it’s simplicity. Thats how the use of female characters stuck as well.
So he's running with it. she has six albums out, five of them being free productions and one for retail. They run through a few different styles of electronic, from ambient to chiptunes. Emit and Exude Emit and Exude was his first album, considered electro industrial. It's free of the website. There is a quick blurb on his website on what the album is about...
I wanted something to represent a feeling of “coming into existence” and also something that represented me deciding on what to do. The first character has no name or face, it is the only character that was “born” from the music and not the other way around. Therefore I chose “Reborn” to be the title for the first song. The second song, “Trains”, as the name suggests is her traveling towards an uncertain future. After that it’s up to everyone else to decide what the other songs on the album represent. The character makes a small re-appearance on “Digital Ambient Designs” as the cover for that album suggests. There is also the “Traveling by night” song connection, but I dont want to spoil more.
1 - Reborn 2 - Trains 3 - Exude 4 - Emit and exude 5 - Triangles Digital Ambient Design His second album, and electro ambient if you can't tell from the title. A lot of the early and late songs on the album start out clam and turn into something chaotic, which is pretty cool to hear. Free off the website. 1 - boot 2 - behind the broken mirror 3 - for lianne 4 - just your regular beat song 5 - Niji no kawa 6 - bells 7 - lain's room 8 - Lain's Toy Musicbox 9 - Conversations 10 - touch responce 11 - Song for you Pioneer Lain's third album, Pioneer, is fucking awesome. It's a chiptune album that was released on 8bitpeoples. The first song, Nebula, is an amazing intro to the rest of the album. I even have three of the songs on my mixtape. 1 - Nebula 2 - Yeah Yeah Beats 3 - Pioneer 4 - Dusk 5 - Session 6 - Streets 7 - Twilight Days Days is an ambient industrial album, and is definetly cool to listen to. Some of the songs make me instantly think of Nine Inch Nails. Then again, NIN is the only industrial band I've listened to. :x 1 - day 1 2 - day 2 3 - day 3 4 - day 4 5 - day 5 6 - day 6 7 - day 7 8 - day 8 9 - day 9 11 - day 10 17 - day 17 Chiptek Chiptek is a chiptune electronical album.
