I loved it at the time but even I would decline that. Consoles were a few hundred dollars and the 360 required monthly payments to play online, it's a hella privileged thing to be able to throw that down just for one game.
Nowadays tho you can prolly snipe a 360 or ps3 for like 50-100 bux, if so it probably is worth it.
'spend 350+$ on a single game'
yea no.

People do that though.
Personally I think that's fucking stupid, but it does happen, and as far as "games to buy a console for," RDR is up there as one of the best imo.
I had a PS3 so I bought Red Dead Redemption because I heard amazing things about it.
Everyone was right it's a really good game, except I suck absolute goat shit playing shooter-esque games on a Controller, so I only played two hours of it. Still waiting on that PC port

I did it for Bloodborne. I want to say it was worth it because I played it for hundreds of hours but goddamn do I hate Sony's stingy practices
Or just wait a couple of years for emulators to catch up and buy yourself a copy. Much cheaper in the long run.
A console isn't worth the money unless there's a bunch of games for it.
I originally bought my PS3 just for RDR. That with a few other games, notably the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection, made it worth it.

I don't think there will ever be a working 360/PS3 emulator. They're just so different from PCs.
Kinda wish I kept my 360 for RDR, but I know if I really wanted to I could pick one up for like $60 with the game now.
If you have a X-Box 1, RDR is backwards compatible.
Like the PS4 and Xbox One, i'm kinda waiting for at least 5 or 10 games that i really want to play and for the console to drop below 300 euro, after that i would consider it

Good thing RDR is on consoles with massive collections of games?
If you buy a 360 you get Halo, Gears of War, and a bunch of other games. If you buy a PS3 you get the MGS Legacy collection and 4, Demons Souls, Uncharted, LittleBigPlanet, etc.
I'm not home so I can't go through my games library, but there's a fuckton of games to get the console for.
Now that they're both sub $100, I'd say it's the perfect time to buy a last gen console.
Rockstar just knows that some people will buy a console just to play this game. I did it for GTA V (with much regret when it came out on PC) and others will do the same. I'm gonna wait till 2018 - 2019 for the PC version this time. I am in no rush, but hopefully Hype doesn't overtake me again.
This article makes a whole lot more sense now that there's no PC announcement of the game.
I wouldn't be surprised if this article were incentivized by Rockstar in an attempt to make PC gamers buy a console for RDR2, and then they'll turn around and release it on PC for that double income.
