• Keith Olbermann Suspended From MSNBC Without Pay
MSNBC has suspended star anchor Keith Olbermann following the news that he had donated to three Democratic candidates this election cycle. "I became aware of Keith's political contributions late last night. Mindful of NBC News policy and standards, I have suspended him indefinitely without pay," MSNBC president Phil Griffin said in a statement. Politico reported Friday that Olbermann had donated $2,400 each to Reps. Raul Grijalva and Gabrielle Giffords of Arizona, and to Kentucky Senate contender Jack Conway. While NBC News policy does not prohibit employees from donating to political candidates, it requires them to obtain prior approval from NBC News executives before doing so. In a statement earlier Friday, Olbermann defended his donation, saying, "I did not privately or publicly encourage anyone else to donate to these campaigns nor to any others in this election or any previous ones, nor have I previously donated to any political campaign at any level." Griffin's statement underscores that it was Olbermann's failure to obtain approval, and not the actual political donations, that prompted the suspension. The move is doubly significant in that it represents a major development in the relationship between Griffin and Olbermann, who once told the New Yorker, "Phil thinks he's my boss." "Keith doesn't run the show," Griffin told New York Magazine recently. "I do a lot of things he doesn't like. I do a lot of things he does." In recent months, Griffin has taken several bold steps to declare his authority over the network and its sometimes unruly talent: he sent a stern memo warning hosts to not publicly fight with each other, he suspended David Shuster indefinitely for filming a CNN pilot, suspended Donny Deutsch, banned Markos Moulitsas from the network, and reprimanded Ed Schultz for threatening to "torch" the network.
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/11/05/keith-olbermann-suspended_n_779586.html So basically Olbermann was caught giving money to democratic candidates, and MSNBC suspended him because they wanted to keep their credibility. Fox has donated millions of dollars to the RNC so I don't see why this is such a big deal.
Oh god, not the teevee!
why

Fox is basically the Republican network, so it's not surprising that they've donated millions to the RNC. Other networks like to maintain some integrity. integrity is non existent with republicans
Yeah, but Keith Olbermann's show is blatantly partisan. I could understand if he was a news anchor or something but he's not.
Did he do it privately, as a citizen in the democratic process?

It's actually the Republican Governor's association not the RNC but that doesn't really matter. [editline]5th November 2010[/editline]
Did he do it privately, as a citizen in the democratic process?
Yeah, he didn't ask anyone else to donate or talk about it on his show, he just did it on his own. He's allowed to do so under NBC rules, but only if he gets approval first. I guess he didn't this time.

That sucks, I really liked his final comments.
Besides that, Fox has a lot of potential 2012 republican candidates under it's payroll.
Fox News just does not care. And neither do most of their viewers, which is unfortunate.
Wait... this was a private donation? Like, Keith Olbermann did it himself without company funds? I'm sorry but that's fucking wrong. That's invasion of privacy and voting rights, as well as undermining freedom of speech. Fuck NBC.

You can look up all the donations a candidate received.
Donating to campaigns has never been private. You can look up all the donations a candidate received.
Not true. In fact there's a pretty big upset right now over non-profit organizations donating to mysterious candidates.
What's wrong with Keith wanting to Emancipate money from his wallet to Democrats?
Awww. Keith Olberman is one of my favorites.
Because every news station wants to be as credible as Fox.
MSNBC isn't even credible, anyways...
Keith is the only anchorman I can actually stand and listen to for news. Everyone else is fucking batshit retarded and not worth acknowledging. At least in my opinion.
I love this News section of Facepunch. People really show who they are in here for whatever reason.
who
Basically the polar opposite of Glenn Beck.
http://gawker.com/5652720/fox-news-parent-company-gave-1-million-to-pro+republican-group Sorry, I thought this was common knowledge. Unless of course you're going to delve into the political donations of all of the "unbiased" mainstream media outlets. And for the record, the Chamber of Commerce provides many great services, especially for small businesses. Not that you would care though, people taking personal responsibility, working hard to earn a living is not what you seem to support. Our dear leader should tell us what to do and will take care of us with portions from the public dole. For whatever reason, NBC decided it was not within their terms to allow someone to donate for a specific party for whatever reason. Why? No one knows, they haven't commented on it, but I suppose it doesn't bode well for their image if they want to appear legitimate and one of their news anchors specifically funds a political party.
god dammit. :c [editline]5th November 2010[/editline]
Yeah, but Keith Olbermann's show is blatantly partisan. I could understand if he was a news anchor or something but he's not.
that's what i said. he's made it clear he's opinionated as fuck. [editline]5th November 2010[/editline]
MSNBC isn't even credible, anyways...
but fox is, RIGHT GAIS?
MSNBC isn't even credible, anyways...
It's biased, just like Fox. And they should be allowed to be biased because of the first amendment. A lot of people can't seem to grasp that.
It's biased, just like Fox. And they should be allowed to be biased because of the first amendment. A lot of people can't seem to grasp that.
There's a difference between bias and bullshit.
There's a difference between bias and bullshit.
There is, but in this circumstance no there isn't
