• Need help dealing with a rootkit.

So after seeing avast! freak out saying explorer.exe was a threat and checking the internet along with running combo I'm fairly sure there is a rootkit on my PC (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). I've never dealt with anything like this before and I could really use your guys' help. Sorry if this is lacking in information at the moment, I just wanted to get a thread up before bed so I can get this settled as soon as possible. Let me know any information you need and I will gladly let you know. I'm running windows vista home premium 32 bit.

Start backing up your data if you fear the worst. Also what was posted above should help you.
I'll give that link a shot, I hope it works. I already have some of my most important files backed up but hopefully the worst can be avoided with that link.
