Russia will supply over 10 Mi-28NE ‘Night Hunter’ attack helicopters to Iraq under a multi-billion dollar agreement. These helicopters are the export version of the Mi-28N, produced by the Russian Helicopter Corporation. Russian news agency Novosti quoted Alexander Mikheyev, deputy general director at Russia’s state arms exporter Rosoboronexport, saying the $4.3 billion arms transfer agreement signed between Moscow and Baghdad includes the transfer of attack helicopters, training of aircrews and technicians, as well as the weapons systems typically employed with these helicopters.
The $4.2 billion package will also include the transfere of additional armament systems, Mikheyev added. The Mi-28NE is the export version of the ‘Night Hunter’ currently employed with the Russian Army. This helicopter code named ‘HAVOC’ by NATO was developed in the 1980s to counter the US Boeing AH-64 Apache. The typical armament of this helicopter includes a 30mm chin mounted gun, two rocket BL13 rocket pods carrying five S13 (100mm) or 20xS8 (80mm) rockets plus and two pairs of AT-8 ATAKA anti-tank missiles pods each carrying four missiles.
Iraq will be the second international operator of the ‘Night Hunter’. In 2012 Kenya has ordered 16 of these helicopters, four have been received sofar. In recent years Rosoboronexport offered the Mi-28NE to India, Venezuela and Algeria, but failed to gain firm orders for the helicopter.
Russia will supply Iraq 10 Mi-28NE attack helicopters as part of a multi-billion dollar arms procurement package. Iraq is expected to receive up to 30 such helicopters.
Hope Iran has good pilots. These helicopters take zero shit. Mi-24 are easier to fly, and that's telling.

Ooh, those helos look really cool with the slick matte black paint and the hi tech gadgetry. Usually you think of Russian surplus as cheap crap from the cold war.

The article says that the deal will include training for aircrews.
And holy shit the glass on these things is rated to take 20mm autocannon rounds.

I hope the flight suits include diapers.
ArmA 3 is becoming a reality!
But seriously, I don't really know what to feel about this.
Well, this'll give the Iranians with the Russian AA missiles something fun to shoot at, anyway :v:
still not as good as the apache lol
They look a lot more menacing though

i know what you mean i've crashed a mi-28 in bf3 so many times now

Opfor in ArmA3 are the Iranians.

Ah, misread this to be Iran, rather than Iraq. My bad.
still not as good as the apache lol
it's not supposed to be an apache equivalent. it's closer to the ah1
arguably the mi24 is closer to the apache's capabilities... and that carries eight blokes into battle too

Meh it isn't as bad as in BC2 at least. Damn dev companies always exaggerating the real issues!
Oh hey are we talking about Mi-28s

And I couldn't find it, but I distinctly remember watching a video where a pilot took an MI-28 up to a 20mm AAA cannon (Like 20 metres away) and just ate a burst of 20mm shells to the cockpit then flew off without giving a single fuck. These things are tanks.
What they need to do is get a bunch of Mi 26's and load the cargo bays up with bombs so they can have carpet bombing without the bigass planes that usually requires.

They like to think big = slower.

Thats one thing that bugged be in the first BF4 gameplay trailer, when that guy starts shooting at that Mi-28 with his M4. Those things can take 20mm autocannon rounds without even blinking, what gives you the idea that your 5.56mm spitballs will do anything?
Hell there are reports of Mi-28s shrugging off multiple RPG hits.

That might have something to do with the menacing grey paintjob.

You can still punch holes in the lightly armored sections of the helicopter. If you mess up the tail rotor driveshafts, or manage to break the pitch change mechanism for the blades, that helicopter is going to have a bad day.

Well of course a hit to those places is gonna ruin the pilot's and gunner's day. The thing is the main rotor blades (not sure about tail rotor) are made out of titanium. Even if a blade is damaged or destroyed the Mi-28 is designed to be able to safely land with a main rotor blade missing.

I call BS. You have to finely balance the rotor blades, and having one missing will cause such incredible stress and loss of balance that that it would pretty much rip the transmission from the deck. I am not talking about hitting the blades though. I am talking about hitting the swashplate, any of the pitch change links, or messing up a driveshaft.
I thought all of the Mi-28's body was heavily armored, unless you're talking about stuff that is outside the main body shell which seems nearly impossible to hit.
