African Christians will be killed if Church of England accepts gay marriage, says Justin Welby

Archbishop says he has seen mass grave of Christians killed by neighbours who said they feared being 'made to become gay'
African Christians will be killed if the Church of England accepts gay marriage, the archbishop of Canterbury has suggested. Speaking on an LBC phone in, Justin Welby said he had stood by a mass grave in Nigeria of 330 Christians who had been massacred by neighbours who had justified the atrocity by saying: "If we leave a Christian community here we will all be made to become homosexual and so we will kill all the Christians."
"I have stood by gravesides in Africa of a group of Christians who had been attacked because of something that had happened in America. We have to listen to that. We have to be aware of the fact," Welby said. If the Church of England celebrated gay marriages, he added, "the impact of that on Christians far from here, in South Sudan, Pakistan, Nigeria and other places would be absolutely catastrophic. Everything we say here goes round the world."
This reasoning has until now been kept private, although both Welby and his predecessor, Rowan Williams, anguished about it in private.
Welby also condemned homophobia in England. "To treat every human being with equal importance and dignity is a fundamental part of being a Christian," he said. Although he continued to uphold what he called the historic position of the church, of "sex only within marriage and marriage only between a man and a woman", he agreed with the presenter, James O'Brien, that it was "completely unacceptable" for the church to condemn homosexual people more than adulterous heterosexual people.
African churches do not share this opinion, and the Anglican churches in both Uganda and Nigeria have given enthusiastic backing to laws which criminalise even the expression of support for gay marriage. Despite these confusions, Welby denied that the church was woolly in its preaching in a testy exchange with the former Conservative cabinet minister Ann Widdecombe, who left the Church of England over its support of female priests in 1992, but phoned in on Friday to attack it. "I think the opponents of women's ordination are wrong theologically," he said.

pretty sound logic
Sneaky guy, I see what he did there.
On the other hand trying to stop change because someone might get killed in Africa is a bit optimistic, and will probably hold them back for a lot longer.
What an informed, intelligent decision to come to. What a great race of people!
If the Nigerians end up committing genocide over the Church of England giving gay people human rights on the other side of the world, then it's not something the Church of England should take responsibility of, it will happen because Africa is a permanently unstable shithole and always will be. Send in the French peacekeepers, like always, to deal with the genocidal nutjobs and continue on with your daily lives.

It's almost like I'm reading The Daily Mail or The Sun's comment sections.
And African Countries all want to be modern and up to date with society and the economic world but they do retarded shit like this

There are plenty of reasonable and intelligent people in Africa.
They're just afraid to die because of how insane the other people are.

you think he's joking, but countries like Mali are surviving because of them.. even being a majority islamic country, the islamists are losing so badly and the country is able to keep going.
Also great music too.
That is pretty brutal. Wasn't/isn't there a provision of the gay marriage law that allowed the C of E to decide if it would perform gay ceremonies?
Fearmongering.
Their promises may be sincere.. but, the premise is simply fearmongering.
That's actually a sound reason to oppose gay marriage on face value, however thousands of people get killed every day in the name of religion in Africa anyway, not to mention he's just scapegoating Africa as a petty leg to stand on against gay marriage.
And if they did endanger African Christians by allowing gay marriage, I'm sure that the people in Africa who are Christian and staunchly against gays would create their own denomination of Christianity or move to another.

Why would a Daily Mail or Sun reader defend gays though?

Attention: what you have said here is terrifically ignorant, and you should hang your head in shame.

While in the same breath implying that an entire race of people are stupid and uninformed? Not sure. Does seem a bit flippin' hypocritical, doesn't it?

Maybe if people stopped screwing with Africa, installing dictators, running oil moguls at every possible opportunity the continent and it's nations would actually have time to develop themselves
It's no wonder it's such a volatile continent, the only time there's any interaction between europe and africa or asia and africa is when europeans/asians want to steal resources for chump change or manipulate national affairs, it's a complete repeat of what happened in the middle east during the early 20th century and it's going to play out exactly the same in the next 80 years.

Does this mean that I can shush you and make you sit in the hall?

More than likely.
I mean it's not a bad thing, just.. kind of strange. I don't know how to describe it.
remember kids, when kicking and screaming and demanding not to be pulled into the 21st century fails, just start murdering people!
because you're right and they're wrong, no matter how much they keep winning

Africa has its own set of problems, with or without the Church of England. And they don't need the Church of England advocating equal rights as justification to kill each other. For the archbishop of Canterbury to claim the Church can't be a proponent of equal rights because people in African will claim Christians are all trying to make them gay and then kill them is fucking stupid.

tbh about half of africas problems are due to their own inept rulers
see zimbabwe and central african republic, contrast to botswana
Jeez, Africa.
They should have just left it alone during the days of world exploration. We should take back all western technology and ideas and let it develop at its own pace. They'll figure things out themselves eventually.

As much as I like the Prime Directive, I'm not really sure that's possible. The majority of the western technology they have is guns, and it's kind of hard to take guns from people who really, really like their guns.

We just need to install a giant magnet above Africa to send all of the AKs into space.
