Republicans have argued the action is beyond his authority and will fight it. There are about 11m illegal immigrants in the US and this year unaccompanied children coming across the Mexico border prompted a humanitarian crisis. "The president is taking an important step to fix our broken immigration system," said a White House statement before Mr Obama's speech, due at 2000EST (0100GMT).

Nearly five million people living illegally in the US can escape deportation under sweeping changes to the US immigration system.
Time to move overseas again.
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
I'm completely for this. It's way too fucking hard to become a legal citizen when you come from a poor background.
why are you guys acting like this changes anything when they weren't being deported anyway [editline]20th November 2014[/editline]
Time to move overseas again.
fuck all these immigrants I'm going to be an immigrant now
Gee, Congress, you have had the opportunity to fix immigration. Mind telling us what's kept you so busy for six years?
Gee, Congress, you have had the opportunity to fix immigration. Mind telling us what's kept you so busy for six years?
"OBUMMER IS A FILTHY SOCIALIST WHO WANTS TO TAKE OUR MONYS :'((((" - Republicans
MY JOB
And the world keeps spinning as millions of illegal immigrants get to keep working.
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
You realise unless you're born here, are rich, are famous, or are highly qualified in a highly demanded field, you have next to 0 chance of gaining citizenship, right? According to those ratings, our immigration system is fine. That must be why so many people opt to break in instead.
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
Because having no borders is just as bad as having a backwards outdated inmigration system
Time to move overseas again.
And get deported by wherever you move to.
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
"Immigration is bad and only bad things happen because of it. By the way, I wouldn't be here if it weren't for immigration."
I'm completely for this. It's way too fucking hard to become a legal citizen when you come from a poor background.
So instead of trying to fix the problem you would rather put a bandaid that won't change anything in the long run.
fuck all these immigrants I'm going to be an immigrant now
No see its different because he was born in a first world country, so it's alright
And the media is going to protect him from himself by not broadcasting his speech where he does it.
So instead of trying to fix the problem you would rather put a bandaid that won't change anything in the long run.
instead of spending millions of taxpayer dollars to deport people who don't affect the economy?? yea
"they will receive work permits, Social Security numbers and have the guarantee that, unless they commit a serious criminal offense, they will not be deported." " One key piece of the order, officials said, will allow many parents of children who are American citizens or legal residents to obtain legal work documents and no longer worry about being discovered, separated from their families and sent away." "That part of Mr. Obama’s plan alone could affect as many as 3.3 million people who have been living in the United States illegally for at least five years, according to an analysis by the Migration Policy Institute, an immigration research organization in Washington. But the White House is also considering a stricter policy that would limit the benefits to people who have lived in the country for at least 10 years, or about 2.5 million people." Looks to me like it's a fair way to deal with decent undocumented immigrants who have lived here for awhile. I'm okay with this. I mean, it's not like he's declaring open borders for a while till it adds up to 5 million or saying everyone is now legal.
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
1) Saves money that might have been spent deporting people 2) Gains taxes since they're able to work legit. I don't see how any of you guys will see an issue there. Fair enough, deport people who break the law or don't contribute to society - but otherwise it looks like a good thing to me.
Rather than allowing the illegal immigrants to stay and granting them all of these privileges for no apparent reason other than to appease those who are whining about the issue, we should actually hit the real problem on the head... If we can allow 5 million to stay and essentially gain citizenship on a whim, why don't we streamline the immigration process to allow those with the means of entering properly and legally their chance? There are queues of people waiting years for paperwork to go through and get returned back, but you can climb a fence and have a 50-50 chance of staying here with benefits? That's not fair at all, no matter what obtrusively diverse background story you have. I am all for immigration, but if you are going to do it, do it right. If not, as far as I am concerned, you ought to be sent back and you can try it the proper way. Your lack of privilege else where shouldn't' give you privilege here...
My girlfriend is an immigrant with a green card. I hope she can get it renewed when it expires (within the next 5 years).
I saw so many illegal immigrants working in the US when I was there, especially at the west coast, it's about time, large parts of the country rest on their shoulders.
b-but m-muh freedums, they're only my freedums I don't wanna give them to anyone else even if they're escaping a horribly fucked up country that is quite literally run by drug cartels that murder anyone/everyone who tries to do anything about their complete control of the government/police institutions
My girlfriend is an immigrant with a green card. I hope she can get it renewed when it expires (within the next 5 years).
ofc she can get it renewed so long as she fills out her I-90 iirc (or her I-751 if she's here conditionally)
I see this as a fair thing seeing as though America's war on drugs caused cartels to control Mexico ruining peoples quiet life. [editline]20th November 2014[/editline] Also, I just want to add that illegal Mexicans are some of the nicest people in America. They are so thankful for being out of their country.
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
Because a lot of them are productive members of society. I'm all for keeping illegals out, but I have a hard time keeping the productive ones out. I want them. They contribute to our economy.
I'm completely for this. It's way too fucking hard to become a legal citizen when you come from a poor background.
For good reason. A person from a destitute village with no education should not be valued as a prospective citizen in the same way as someone who is educated and capable of contributing more to society and their own bank accounts. If a country wants immigrants to come and stay there, they're gonna want the cream of the crop, not some random people for the hell of it. If a person really wants to become a citizen, they should do so legally instead of trying to cheat the system. Of course, there's no guarantee to getting accepted as one, but since when did a country ever guarantee it would want any specific person?
Fucks sake, why don't we just tear down the borders and let anyone who wants to just walk on in and do whatever they like?
Yeah, let's let the cartels just come on over and set up shop here too, as if they don't already fuck shit up in that region.

I think anyone should be able to live wherever they want as long as they aren't like known criminals or something. And since we're a democracy, who gets to move here is who we collectively decide gets to move here.

5 million new voters for the Democrats ?
