Arentz was booked into the Victor Valley Jail on a felony animal cruelty charge. The District Attorney’s office initially rejected the case. However sheriff’s officials plan to submit additional information for reconsideration of criminal charges. Princess is expected to continue recuperating at the animal hospital before being turned over to Apple Valley Animal Control. Apple Valley’s Animal Services Manager Gina Schwin-Whiteside said another dog and several cats were seized from Arentz’s property, although they did not show signs of abuse. Schwin-Whiteside said the town will recommend that none of the animals be returned to Arentz, who was unable to pay for the surgery or care.
