For the past years I've been coming to Facepunch I've noticed that at every possible opportunity that when ever someone mentions or utters the word "Republican" the thread instantly decends into a chaotic mess of posts explaining their blind hatered and dislike of the entire party and all it's members.
What I want to explain, that first of all. I am a Republican. Second of all, that the Republican party as a whole isn't that bad. Generally the sterotype is "HOMOHATING CHRISTAN FAGS HATE LIBERTY!1" however, the fact of the matter is that, yes, a small portion of our party is like this. However, the entire party as a whole, is not. The reason the typical sterotype of Republicans is spread is that those people who honestly have their heads up their assholes are the most vocal. Examples are Fox News and Glenn Beck.
Not all Republicans are Christians, not all Republicans hate gays. Not all Republicans are horrible ignorant people.
For example. I'm a Republican. I support Gay Rights, such as marriage and the like, it happens that my Uncle is gay and is also a Republican. Ontop of which, I am in Athiest. I am a Republican because I agree with the core fundimentals that the party was founded on. Namely, the that States should hold most of the power and the National Government hold as little power as possible. Not that we should completely do-away with it, just limit their power to impose on the states.
This is where people normally go ahead and say "Don't flame, no bashing etc." but I know that's not going to happen no matter how polite I try to be about it. So go nuts, I just wanted to throw my opinion out there.
I'm a Republican.
There are always exceptions to the sweeping generalizations. But unfortunately for you, the "republican stereotype" is going to persist and you choose to be a part of that generalization by stating that you're a republican, no matter how different you are from the said stereotype.
I only dislike extremist republicans. The gay-bashing, christian, uber-conservative ones. While I'm far-left, I chose to be open minded and neutral towards conservative points and beliefs.
People will always argue about political and religious beliefs, whether logically or immaturely.
People outside of FP do this too, assuming that because I affiliate myself with the right, I am a bible-thumper that hates gays.
I wish I could rate you more than one agree.

I agree fully.
I dislike Fox News and right-wing extremism. I hold some left and right wing values but associate with neither side really. I support gay rights and am more agnostic than atheist or Christian. I tend to dislike politicians of any party though.
Can't say I'm in the middle however. Of course, as it has been stated already, we as humans will continue to have our disagreements, it's a fact of life. I try to remain neutral and unbiased though, since I have friends and family of both sides.
christian
So you hate Christians?
I've lost respect for Republican politicians over the past year over some of the bullshit they've blocked, to be honest. Not saying I don't agree with some of the ideals, it's just that there's a lot of jackasses in the party. But, the same can be said about any party in particular.

It's terrible good entertainment though.

Uh, have you listened to your representatives? Seen the bills they propose? The things they say? The points they argue? I'm sorry, but while to most Republicans I'm accepting, it's hard to do that when the majority of your party leaders and representatives are perfect examples of the extreme.

You can agree with that, but that's not all the party was funded on, and following that, it's not what the party is about now. There are other parties that are based around the same thing that don't also support things that republicans commonly support and things they commonly fight against.
As in, you don't fit into the party, you should switch.
Republican Space Rangers

It is done way too much. Redundant and predictable.
I am Republican
The system may be based on greed but hey, it works
Most republicans are just normal Americans, just like most democrats. The media tries to portray everything in a black and white scenario, but to be honest most people, regardless of political opinions, are all pretty much the same. It's just your typical political BULL SHIT with both sides trying to their members at the others throats.

The problem is that you really can't find republicans with those core beliefs much any more. They oversimplify themselves into BUSINESS BLAH BLAH BLAH and LOWER TAXES BLAH BLAH BLAH.
It seems modern Republicans are scared of taxes and only really support big business. I really wish the brand would get away from the social (religious) fundamentalism that makes this country look completely retarded to the rest of the world.
Also, why can't republicans be environmentalists?
The fact of the matter is that the republican party's policies are, by and large, homophobic, anti-scientific, ultraconservative and ignorant.
Kinda like the Catholic Church.
Bashing and stereotyping happens everywhere.
People like to bring out the extremists of the other side as examples during discussions and debates to further their own agenda, because it makes themselves look more reasonable when they represent the other side with nutjobs. But don't think the republicans are the only victims here, both sides are pretty much guilty of doing this.
And I'm not American, so I try to have an outsiders view on the politics over there.
Although I have to say that Fox news can be hilarious to watch sometimes.
I'm a Libertarian.
There are other political parties, but, unfortunately, America is a horribly biased two-party state.

To be honest, I'm not an environmentalist. For reasons I will not explain as I don't want to turn this thread into one about Climate Change. But to be honest, alot of the ideas behind the Green Movement are wasting money and creating more waste then they recycle. Such as recylcing paper, nearly all of America's Paper Product are created with the use of Tree Farms. If you waste more paper, they grow more trees to meet the demand. They also use safe and conservative lumbering methods to lesson the impact on the environment. Recylcing paper wastes fuel, creates more CO2 and at the end you get a low quaility shell of what used to be paper that costs more.
Also, taxes are never going to get lower. I accept that, but they should be used on different things. Not bailing out Car Companies.

All modern day news stations are hilarious to watch too :smug:
You sound like a pretty bad Republican
[editline]05:52PM[/editline]
Or at least a bad representation of what the party is now about
Most people on Facepunch who say "I hate Republicans" mean that they hate the gay-bashing, fundamentalist, extreme-right Republican, not the normal guy in the street, just like most people who say they hate Christians mean that they hate the homophobic, oppressive fundamentalists and not the normal people who go to church every Sunday.
basically people hate the stereotypes, it doesn't mean they hate the people
I support the monarchy.
Why do we need to call ourselves liberals or republicans or whatever at all? Can't we just forget the pointless labels altogether and just have individual opinions rather than the opinions of a party or whatever? Or are we all too stupid to have our own unique thoughts these days?

My thoughts exactly. But it's not going to happen, even Geroge Washington urged this idea and apparently the American people wanted a political-party system so here we're.
Yeah I'm with everyone else here. I just don't like the ignorant far right people.
and to the above: I think that unless we band together were not going to get anything done. Not like we get much done anyway though.
Thanks for speaking up for us republicans. [=

It's also because they have too much damn free time. There used to be a time where you were lucky if you got the Morning, Evening and Nightly News. You got the important facts and issues and that was it. Now they just find stories they can streeetch out until they completely stray away from the topic (Which wasn't that important to begin with) and then you have the 'News' because it's a 24/7 News Channel.
