Hey fellow Apple fans. I bought an iPod Touch a few weeks ago from amazon. It is the 8gb 3rd gen (well technically it's a 2gen with the software upgrade, but I guess Apple had the final say :v:) I decided to leave it with it's default firmware for the first week in case it had some malfunctions and needed to be exchanged. Thankfully it's in perfect order so I can proceed.
My question was - what is the best way to jailbreak my touch? Here are the specs:
I am running MAC OSX 10.5.8 on a PowerPC Macbook. My iPod touch is currently at iPhone OS Version 3.1.2 (7D11 whatever that means)
The first option is to jailbreak on my mac (I'd prefer doing that) the second is going over to my friend who used blackra1n to jailbreak his 32gig. If the only way is option 2: will my friend's PC recognise my iPod? Will my mac recognise it after the jailbreak?
EDIT:
So I used blackra1n. It showed me geohot and everything, but when it started rebooting my itunes says that the ipod is in recovery mode and needs
to be recovered. I recovered and tried again - didn't work. Need help.
i jailbroke mine whit blackra1n, to get it just google: Blackra1n, download and run it when your ipod is connected and wait until it reboots.
Yep beavis is telling the truth.
How often does Jailbreak fail.
And is it really that easy? :ohdear:

Pretty much never, and yes, it is.
Even if it does screw up, and your ipod is somehow rendered unusable (I've never seen or heard of this happening, ever) then you can just restore it via itunes and it's good as new.

once the picture of geohot comes up you should be free to unplug
I did that and it restarted fine
I'll try tomorrow but thanks for the tip,
More info:
Wikipedia says that as of Jan 6 blackra1n doesnt jailbreak ipod touches with a model number of MCXXX. I tried using Pwnage Tool but iTunes had trouble restoring with the custom firmware...
I'm feeling a bit hopeless at this point..

Well that sucks.

There are some issues I can vouch with this however. When I was jailbreaking my 3G with BlackRa1n, it would sometimes fail to jailbreak, putting my iPod into recovery mode constantly, another bad side effect is that if your power runs out on your iPod while being jailbroken with BlackRa1n, you won't be able to use it again until you jailbreak it again.

Not true.
I Jailbroke mine yesterday and i have an MCXXX model. When it goes into recovery mode just restart Blackra1n. The wikipedia article is referring to Untethered Jailbreaking. If you have an MCXXX model, every time you reboot or turn off your iPod, you'll have to plug your ipod into a computer and run Blackra1n again in order for it to be usable. Not a big problem unless you go days without being near a computer or you turn it off a lot.
thanks, I'll try that right now
