At his home in Carrollwood, a woman who answered the door declined to comment. One neighbor said he only knew that Spurback lived on his street. Police said Spurback approached the boy in the restroom, pulled down the boy’s pants and fondled him. The boy told police Spurback then pulled down his own pants and fondled himself. The child ran out and told his parents what happened. Security guards held Spurback until police arrived. Police said he admitted to the allegations during an interview with a detective. Spurback had no criminal record in Florida, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. The zoo conducted a criminal background check before he was allowed to prepare food for animals as a volunteer. Spurback had volunteered at the zoo since fall 2009. He did not work in public areas, and his shift had ended before Tuesday’s incident, said Rachel Nelson, a zoo spokeswoman. “There was no indication of previous behavior which would preclude him from volunteering,” Nelson wrote in an e-mail.[/quote]
