I was handed down a fairly large bong with a broken bowl (no problem as I can grind and polish it down and install another one) but before I really start working on it I want to get rid of all the resin in the thing and there is a lot.
What's the easiest way to chemically strip the inside of the thing clean of everything?
As far as I know, Rubbing alcohol if you plan on smoking the resin that comes out (As fukked up as that sounds), and Rubbing alcohol with salt if you don't plan on smoking it, (Once again seems odd but the salt helps clean it better I heard, though I've never used it and rubbing alcohol alone worked fine)
I'm sure there are different ways, but that's how me and my friends did that shit..

If you have a head shop around you then you can pick up some 420 cleaner if they have some.

Rubbing alcohol + any kind of rough coarse salt. Most glass cleaners I've used work great as well because they are essentially rubbing alcohol + coarse salt.

This thing is totally nasty and there's no way that anything inside of it should be reused.

91% isopropyl alchohol and course sea salt will be enough. Let the alcohol sit in it for a while then plug all holes and shake it up

Alcohol + salt works extremely well. Try that first.

I'd just suggest bathing it in a mixture of hot water and bleach/ajax. Then another bath in just hot water, and then rinse it out and polish the outside with cleaner. To get resin and such off of hard to reach places you could use steel wool (Be gentle though).
Now I'm curious as to if it would also be ok running it in a dishwasher for a cycle.

Best cleaner there is, 2 bottles will probably last a year or so

mate of mine bought grunge off a few days ago and it removes even the bits you cant get rid of with the alcohol + salt (percolators for example). even gets rid of limescale.
Get some rubbing alcohol and salt, mix it together. Then fill the bong with it and [i]swish[/i] it around (think holding by the mouth section and twirling the base in a circle). Works every time.
When the solution becomes dark and [i]sludgy[/i], rinse the piece with water and mix together more salt and alcohol. You don't have to use a lot when you mix this stuff. Only half a shot-glass amount of rubbing alcohol and a few pinches of salt.
if you're having trouble reaching areas in the bong with the amount above, use water mixed with the solution, itll dilute it though, so you may want to add more salt/alcohol.
It should be noted that you need to use the coarsest salt you can get your hands on, table salt won't clean it completely.
I use 91% Iso and regular table salt. Though I don't go more that 2 or 3 days without cleaning everything, so I don't know how well it will work for heavy res build-up.

I've always used rice(Internet told me to) and it works flawlessly in my experience.
I primarily smoke hash with tobacco though, don't know if heavy bud usage will make it harder to clean :)

Realizing that my bong is nothing but glass I sprayed the inside with oven cleaner before I went to bed because I know that stuff will fucking eat anything but glass. This morning I rinsed it out with hot water and shook it a bit and it took a LOT of the resin out. There is a few stubborn spots where the foam didn't reach but I'll apply it again and see what happens.

People use rubbing alcohol because it evaporates fast, and does't leave any residue. Make sure you rinse it HEAPS, LIKE HEAPS if you used oven cleaner. That shits nasty.

put isopropyl in bong in all chambers leave sitting with a covered top/downstem for several hours
add salt and shake the fuck out of it
clean hard to reach places with pipecleaners
repeat as necessary

99% rubbing alcohol is expensive as fuck. $6 for a bottle.
