Japan seizes aluminium alloy rods which can be used to make nuclear centrifuges from a Singapore-flagged ship which was carrying cargo from North Korea.
TOKYO: Japan has seized aluminium alloy rods which can be used to make nuclear centrifuges from a Singapore-flagged ship which was carrying cargo from North Korea, a government spokesman said Monday.
The five rods were discovered on the ship during its call at Tokyo port last August and were confirmed to be aluminium alloy through tests conducted over the past six months, said Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga.
"The aluminium alloy is extremely strong and can be used in centrifuges, that are products related to nuclear development," Suga told a regular news briefing.
The rods had been stored at a private warehouse and the Japanese government ordered the firm Monday to hand them over.
Did they come from Amazon?

Do they have any other evidence that that's what they're using them for...?
Seems kind of far out assumption
They find a aluminum rod on a cargo ship that moves stuff to NK and automatically it's used for weaponry
We've been doing the same kind if stuff to Iran for years, really.
Sensationalist headlines. This time on part of the news agency.

It takes that long to analyze something?
Edit:
Maybe I've fallen for the NCIS mass-spectrometer-results-in-15-seconds thinking
It takes that long to analyze something?
They just ordered some swivel chairs.
I'd be much more impressed if it was uranium.
How does capturing aluminum stop the North Koreans? Aluminum is one of the most abundant metals on Earth. Too much can be made out of common, simple metals that any nation with a ore refinery can produce.
lolwut, this is really stupid there are so many fucking uses for aluminum bars
heck I can think of so many things that have nothing to do with weapons
Silly Japan. Everyone knows that NK can't afford aluminium.
No aluminum foil = no take out for Kim
aluminium rods... what?
It's heading away from North Korea anyway, what the hell.

It's NK, where else can you use them ? Definitively to not feed the people.

You eat aluminum?
What are they going to do next, seize copper wire as "bomb materials"?
You eat aluminum?
I just noticed i missed the wording :
"Definetly not to feed the people."
high-strength aluminum tubes manufactured from 7075-T4 aluminum with an outer diameter of 81 mm, and an inner diameter of 74.4 mm, a wall thickness of 3.3 mm and a length of 900 mm
These were very special. The Korean ones most likely are the same.

Not necessarily. The first paragraph of the article states that in Iraq's case, it was later determined that they were likely to be used to create 81mm rockets carrying conventional warheads. That's a slightly smaller size of projectile than is fired by the 84mm AT4 recoilless rifle, and was probably to be used for rocket artillery. Given how much NK uses its artillery, the same is likely.

north korea recently threatened japan with nuclear strikes, i think this is perfectly acceptable.
What'd be funny if this started that war Best Korea has been talking about doing for the past 70-80 years.

Yeah, because it turned out that Iraq had WMDs and the aluminum tubes were intended to be used in nuclear centrifuges and therefore the invasion of iraq was justified under the precise reports of informants, the President's unbiased advisors and unanimous international support
cough cough
I was trying to point out the stupidity of "lol Aluminium rods" when in fact they are a very special kind of Aluminium.
poor north korea why is everyone picking on them? maybe japan is feeling little man syndrome
Okay they're just doing this on purpose now to mess with North Korea.
I'd be much more impressed if it was uranium.
Yeah, cause everyone has uranium in their warehouses..

Did you just link to an article where the first paragraph explicitly states: "no evidence was found of a program to design or develop an 81-mm aluminum rotor uranium centrifuge" ?
