Islamic State militants have downed a military helicopter near Palmyra, Syria, killing two Russian pilots on board. The helicopter had been attacking the advancing terrorists at Damascus’ request when it was taken down, according to the Russian defense ministry.
“On July 8, Russian military pilot-instructors Evgeny Dolgin and Ryafagat Khabibulin, were conducting a calibration flight on a Syrian Mi-25 (export version of the Mi-24) helicopter loaded with ammunition in the province of Homs,” the official statement from the Ministry of Defense reads.
“The crew received a request from the Syrian command group to help defeat the advancing terrorists and fire for effect. The captain of the aircraft, Ryafagat Khabibullin, made the decision to attack.”
The Ministry of Defense stated that due to the skillful actions of the crew the terrorists were thrown back and the attack had been thwarted.
However, their helicopter was shot down by terrorists as it was turning to head back to the base.
RIP you poor bastards. Hopefully this encourages the Russian government to put the hurt on Daesh with some bigger weapons. :disappoint:

Sucks that they died, but it's better than being captured and executed by haji and the goatfuckers
The day we wipe out ISIS is a day I can drink heavily too.

Yeah, but easier said than done. Isn't a matter of bombing out all their fighters, there is a deeper underlying culture we need to work on eliminating. If not we'll just get someone else as we did with ISIS when we thought we finally almost ended Al Qaeda.

Yeah yeah, COIN and all that shit needs to be worked on, but we need people on the ground to do that shit (humanitarian organizations affiliated with army)

this subtext

Subtext here would be a lot more sneaky with my goatfuckers bit, it's obvious I was not being sneaky at all
Haji and the goatfuckers, while being a good band name imo, is also a great way to demean terrorists easily
Wait wait wait people aren't allowed to show anything from RT news? Damn western propaganda is very high in this forums.
what is wrong with RT? what is RT?
anyway, that looks like a pretty clean slam, lets hope they died instantly and did not suffer.
Why are we not better working hand in hand with russia?

No idea. Because they've written sensationalized articles and are pro-Russia they've been banned I guess, even though they've been a good source from my experiences.
RT is banned because they're literally state-owned propaganda. They bias news against the US and pro-russia at every opportunity, to the point of falsifying news to further their agenda.

Not every article they write is sensationalized. I've found them reliable on non-political issues.

All journalism has a bias, to a degree.

RT is particularly bad. If you're not aware of it, you won't see it. Propaganda is very subtle.
However, ironically sometimes RT is the only place you get to hear about things in Western countries that the government don't want you to hear about. So sometimes it's helpful. But most of the time it's a pile of stinking garbage that is trying to convince you to eat it.
Why not use multiple sources (including RT) to come to a conclusion?
You'll learn more by looking at media from all sides.

I feel bad for the pilots.
Having the rear rotor fucked up and spinning to the ground, having absolutely no control of how or where you hit the ground is a terrible way to die.

There are recovery scenarios to make a clean landing without a tail rotor, seems like these guys just did not have that option for some reason.
All the tail rotor really does is prevent the craft from spinning out and helping it steer laterally, in an 'ideal' scenario there are minutes of time before the craft starts spinning out of control beyond a safe landing.
