To be honest I haven't got even the slightest problem with what they're doing to prevent piracy as long as they don't start doing stuff that affects my non-warez internet activity.

Somehow, They will.
It's not going to work. Whoah ~block~ the site, but there's always proxies.

And VPN
And TOR
In short: why do they even bother? if someone wants to get around the block, they will.
Just get a decent *insert nearby country here* proxy.
Proxies are all well and good but that is just hassle. Why can't we be like everyone else and ignore it!?
Or they could tax writable disks and just you know, allow pirating like Canada.

Whao Whao Whao
Slow the fuck down. You can do that, legally in Canada?

You forget to mention they also have a tax on harddrives, usb flashdrives and so on.
Also didn't the EU consider something similar?

Nearly all countries do this (or did in the past) and used to do with tapes.

eh
Whilst I am against any form of blocking it isn't wrong of them to block sites that really only deal with illegal distribution of files.
The problem is just that, where do they draw the line? And the possibility is that, once they start they'll easily start dragging out the line further and further all the way to the point where sites that MIGHT have SOME illegal activity in it will be blocked, even if it's unsure. That would basically put any form of forum under threat. It's not something that'll happen fast, but it'll slowly happen over man years if it should happen.

Not everyone in the world knows about proxies. Everything like this is meant to REDUCE *Insert whatever here* with the goal being completely removing it. But they know just as well as any other person that that isn't possible, but that doesn't mean it shouldn't be the goal.

Nope
Nope
I'm not sure it counts as a cost when there's no guarantee the people pirating stuff would be willing to buy it. Hell, they're pirating it because they aren't willing to buy it in the first place.

There's plenty of people pirating a game to try it out, since there's either only a shitty demo for it or no demo at all.
That's true. And you could say those people who want a sample of a game before they buy it are potentially gained sales from piracy.
