The 473-foot Harbour Feature was reported to have broken free from the State Pier in Portsmouth and swung into the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge at about 1:30 p.m. Monday, Coast Guard Lt. Nick Barrow said. The Portuguese-flagged vessel, he said, was transporting tallow oil, an animal product that carries less of an environmental risk than a petroleum product in the event of a spill.
Even tallow oil would still be hell to clean up if it had spilled though, good that is didn't.
Also, traffic in the whole city is going to be fucked up until that bridge is open again.
It should be a rule that in headlines when talking about somewhere with the same name as several major cities in several countries, you specify Portsmouth(US), for example.
Because, you know, it affects me when I'm momentarily concerned about the well being of people I still don't know but live a bit closer.
That river has a very strong current during the tides, just last year a tugboat got stuck under one of those bridges.
