This movie scared the shit out of me (I was 12 at the time), and I still think it's scary today. The movie was a remake of a Japanese horror movie (Called Ringu in the States). Overall this movie felt very ominous, which in my opinion worked great since the movie gets exponentially more frightening as the days tick down and as more omens appear. My friends are decisively split on this movie, but they aren't really horror fans, so I expected as much.
And that ending...man was that awesome. Watch it here. (Obviously Spoilers)

Also, The Ring 2 sucked balls.
I watched the US one first, and everyone blammed it for being not as scary as the original Japanese version. So I watched the Japanese version, and it was fucking terrible. It was so much more cheesy and nowhere near as frightening.

You know what I felt the same way. Rented Ringu from the store, and while it wasn't a bad movie, I feel like everyone just has a biased hate against remakes (even if they turn out to be good), and an unjustified love of Japanese Horror Movies. Not that I'm trying to imply Japanese horror is bad, but people like to feel that they are somehow superior for not liking the "dumbed down" American versions.
If we get rated boxes, then I assume that means we wrong.

I agree with you guys, i guess people just like to hate on remakes no matter what /:
Little evil girls in films are the scariest shit ever for me.

Nuff said'
Is it like Screamer scary or atmosphere scary?
I've watched both versions, can't decide which one is better
I found the Japanese one much scarier. The American one was SO Hollywood cheese I thought. Wasn't bad but it wasn't as good as the original.
i loved both movies and they scared the shit out of me and my friends when we were kids. when we were younger we saw this girl who looked exactly like the girl from the ring so when she came by we ran away :v:
The Ring was ok, Ringu was ok, but nothing special. Both The Ring 2 and Ringu 2 sucked majorly despite being completley different.
they were decent horror movies
I've never seen the original Japanese version because i don't particularly care for reading subtitles
