I accidentally messed up my 8800GT last night and it's out of warranty so I need to get a new one. I don't use a SLI setup so plenty of cards can be a nice upgrade for me.
I have been looking through Newegg since last night and there's one major problem I keep encountering and I'm not real positive about how I should proceed.
I would really like to get a card with Direct X 10.1 support since I'm getting Windows 7 but I can't really afford to spend more than $100 as is and I really don't need to spend more than $70. All of the cards that are cheaper, around $50, are pretty good spec, but there are only 16 stream processors. There are no 32s with 10.1 and the next best are 48.
The problems is that none of the 16s have any ratings it seems, and all of the 48 are a bit expensive, but have shit ratings.
Anyone have any advise on how important the amount of steam processors is or anything?
Also, my specs are as follows:
2.6GHz Pentium D
2GB RAM
Windows 7 Professional 64x
Another thing, my case is pretty small so I can't get a large card. It doesn't always have to be a space saver one, but it can't be too big.
EDIT:
The card I'm most likely going to get as a replacement just due to financial reasons is this:

Don't really know anything about the importance of the fact it only has 16 processors though.
My GTX 260 has Dx10.1 support, it's a great card you should get one.
Give me bad reading. :downs:....... and boxes, I need those too.
Thank you for reading the op and suggesting a $200 at the least card.
Do you need nvidia or is that just a preference, because at that price, ati have some much better deals.

I need Nvidia. My PC was origionally made by Dell and my motherboard is Dell. I'm not 100% on it, but I'm pretty much positive that I was told that an ATI card wouldn't work, and I don't have any to test it.

An ATI card will work, whoever told you otherwise is lying.

I kind of like this card. I don't have any experience with ATI cards other than an old 2600 in a PC I bought in 2001.
I might go with it, gona think about it a bit more.
If your power supply can handle.

That's not so good. Especially since it's a Dell OEM power supply.
OP what's the max your willing to spend on this card?
OP what's the max your willing to spend on this card?
He said in the OP for goodness sake. No more than $70-100.
Well a friend of mine is talking to me right now. He has been system building for like 15 years and he gave me a bunch of reasons not to go with an ATI card because of my CPU.
That and he's also offering to send me another 8800GT for free so I'm probably going with that.

Yea, but he obviously seems to want cards around the $60 price range.

Rape your friend in the eyeball. A computer doesn't have favorite brands, I mean, I have an nVidia Motherboard, Intel Cpu, and an ATI GPU.

That doesn't make any sense whatsoever.
Anyway, take the free 8800GT.

take the free card then tell your friend he's an idiot who should never make human contact again, lest he spread his fatal fase of the Fanfaggotry
He says that ATI cards push off the work on the computer's CPU which considering mine isn't that great isn't a good idea. Plus he hasn't had great experiences with them, and the 8800GT is free so I think I'll stick with Nvidia.

Which is most likely why he fabricated the first fact. Anyway, enjoy your card.
I trust him so whatever. 2 other people are agreeing with him now so I'm gona trust that fact.

What other people? Are you looking on the nvidia forums?

I think he's on about physx which is a useless gimmick used in a handful of games
and don't "stick" with nVidia, you just get whatever is best for your pricerange. Why the fuck does everyone feel the need to pick a side
Your friend is something called a fanboy, which originated from the radiation from Chernobyl.

Supposedly they can be harvested for carbon nano-tubes.
