• Possible Hard Drive Failure Help

hi, So my desktop decided to corrupt its hard drive and convert everything to RAW, i recovered files i needed then formatted and reinstalled windows 7 32bit, things are rather slow, and im quite sure its the hard drive. The hard drive was purchased in 2006 and has been fine since then but im wondering if its beginning to suffer from old age, Im unwilling to do much more work on getting my desktop back to a usable level until i have ascertained whether the hard drive is going to go or not. I have a SMART tool which i ran to get the figures but the results are a little confusing: as you can see a lot of the values are at their worst recorded, im also unsure what the threshold number means, seeing as its much lower then most of my results. To elaborate on the "Slowness" of my computer, programs take a long time to open, folders also, explorer likes freezing a lot, and every now and a gain a boot freezes before i get to the password screen. Ive run a few diagnostics which indicate nothing wrong anywhere else on the machine. Could you take a look at the SMART results and see what you think? Also if there are any further diagnostic tools you can recomend that mind find a problem that would also be helpful. I have spare hard drives standing by to become the desktops new primary drive incase of the worst. EDIT: it just failed a conveyance offline smart test Thanks :D
SMART values go down and up depending on the attribute. There is a western digital tool you should run if you're still not sure: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=616&sid=3&lang=en [editline]01:40PM[/editline] I take it back, when I said some attributes go up and down, I was right, but I've muddled up which ones yours had and which way round they should be. Let me check up WD SMART attributes. [editline]01:41PM[/editline] In the mean time, run that utility I linked to, that will give you a better idea on how well your drive is faring.
Ran a quick test with the above to start, it failed with "Failed Read Test element" Running extended test
Ok according to this, your values are fucking terrible. Coupled with the WD test, it looks like you're looking at a dead/dying drive.
Extended test made everything freeze, got a speedfan online report now though also i acidentally posted the wrong hard drive above, i have 2 in the desktop the same age so ill post both reports down here: OS drive: http://www.hddstatus.com/hdrepshowreport.php?ReportCode=4692569&ReportVerification=47C9B67B Data Drive: http://www.hddstatus.com/hdrepshowreport.php?ReportCode=4692577&ReportVerification=6033E048
