• ITS HAPPENING!: Chicago Police will no longer respond to cold 911 calls
Ald. Latasha Thomas (17th) pressed Schenkel to describe the kinds of calls that would no longer get an in-person police response.“If you park your car on the street, somebody breaks in and your laptop you’ve left on the seat is gone, that’s a perfect example,” he said. “You’re probably not gonna get that laptop back immediately. The offender is gone. There’s no imminent threat to life. And the individual may need a police report number to report to their insurance company.”
http://www.suntimes.com/news/cityhall/15826712-418/city-revamps-911-dispatch-policy.html So basically they won't respond to burglary, car theft, etc. (User was banned for this post ("misleading headline" - Starpluck))
car theft could potentially ruin a man's life. This is ignorance, not improvements.

I fucking love how the police in these crime infested cities like Detroit, and now Chicago, have basically just given up.
Misleading, 911 has only been for emergency's forever. This is not to say calling your local police station will not harbor a result. It's just 911 is for emergency's that are happening now. I know this is SH, but this is SH as fuck.
More like they will no longer respond to non-emergency 911 calls.
I thought that this was a common knowledge. Some areas in america just don't have the proper police to deal with half the stuff going on. Although it will be astonishing news to those middle class people that live in gated communities that some parts of the united states is just fucked up.
Although I don't like it, this move makes sense. No point in sending out officers to something like this when there's literally nothing they can do. I mean, there should be a police response, just not in the form of dispatching officers to ask you pointless questions. Those officers could better serve Chicago by being called to a violent crime instead.
If you called 000 here in Australia to report a burglary, they'd just tell you to ring the non-emergency number, nothing new
I'm going to rate everyone who doesn't see how sensationalist this dumb. Jsyk.
They won't come in person to a crime scene that has already ended. The suspect is gone; sending an officer will not help when that officer could be out doing more productive things than talking to the victim (who either way is making a police report -- what is actually used to get things done). This is not an issue.

If it's grand theft auto, they will respond. If you see the burglar or perpetrator, they will respond. Very sensationalist, and in a city like Chicago these calls probably flood the emergency lines.
Misleading, 911 has only been for emergency's forever. This is not to say calling your local police station will not harbor a result. I suppose swords or polearms are good for home defense.
So they won't respond to Burglaries, and the city has practically banned firearms. I suppose swords or polearms are good for home defense.
uhh pretty sure it's when you call in saying 'my windows are broken and my stuff is taken' that they won't respond if you call in and say 'there's a guy in my house', they're obviously going to come
gosh yeah those damn middle classers theyre so snooty they have all the money i bet they're dumb and don't understand the police force's resource allocation unlike me
Its actually happened where my aunt being a person living in said class and community freaked out about someone doing meth in public when she came to visit my family. Everyone was like "big fuckin deal" while she was going to dial 911.
Sure is sensational titles around here.
Technically true though. They aren't responding to 911 calls. Whether that's ALL or SOME 911 calls is left up to the reader.
They still respond to 911 calls, but due to the lack of resources, they wont respond to the low-priority calls. [editline]9th February 2013[/editline]
If you called 000 here in Australia to report a burglary, they'd just tell you to ring the non-emergency number, nothing new
My city merged the non-emergency and emergency into one: 911. They have to dispatch and respond to all calls, no matter how small.
If you called 000 here in Australia to report a burglary, they'd just tell you to ring the non-emergency number, nothing new
Here, if you want to file a report against a fellon, you have to pay 200€ :v:
I fucking love how the police in these crime infested cities like Detroit, and now Chicago, have basically just given up.
you've clearly never been to chicago
“The effort is to put police officers on crimes — preferably crimes in progress or to prevent crimes — rather than tying them up with administrative duties,”
So, they are doing less paper work and homework, and more car chases. Sounds like a legitimate way to tackle crime* [SUB][SUB][SUB][SUB][SUB]*Crime may not be the word used to describe this anymore..[/SUB][/SUB][/SUB][/SUB][/SUB]
uhh pretty sure it's when you call in saying 'my windows are broken and my stuff is taken' that they won't respond if you call in and say 'there's a guy in my house', they're obviously going to come
I wish there was a way to make posts in a thread permanently affixed to your browser window so people can't not see it. This is exactly the purpose, so they keep emergency responders available for emergencies, as there have been serious emergencies going unattended because the main forces are spread thin doing a whole bunch of bullshit writing reports on the field. I saw the fox news special on this the other day, they literally went straight to "WHAT IF SOMEONE ENTERED YOUR HOME AND PUT A GUN TO YOUR HEAD?". This rule would be totally irrelevant at that point anyways, have fun getting a phone out and dialing 911 with an assailant holding you at gunpoint
Sure is sensational titles around here.
Indeed, I heard about this on the radio yesterday. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO STOP RESPONDING TO 911 CALLS. JUST THE STUPID ONES!
Indeed, I heard about this on the radio yesterday. THEY ARE NOT GOING TO STOP RESPONDING TO 911 CALLS. JUST THE STUPID ONES!
*just the ones that are basically responding to things that are already over and just need a police report filed
car theft could potentially ruin a man's life. This is ignorance, not improvements.
How? Like, a laptop was stolen with valuable stuff? If he keeps that sort of stuff in his laptop, and then keeps the laptop in the car, yeeeaaahhh, that's kinda stupid.
when your shit gets stolen you march your ass over to the local department and file out the paperwork ain't nobody got time to respond to those sorts of calls
Its actually happened where my aunt being a person living in said class and community freaked out about someone doing meth in public when she came to visit my family. Everyone was like "big fuckin deal" while she was going to dial 911.
This clearly makes you an expert on the ordeal.
I'm going to rate everyone who doesn't see how sensationalist this dumb. Jsyk.
I'm going to rate you dumb.
hi in chicago if something like this happens you call 311 which is the non-emergency number
Also calling 311 allows you easy access to non-emergency police services, from filing police reports to talking to police personnel in your district. You should call 311 if the incident that you are reporting has occurred and the offender is gone from the scene.
http://www.cityofchicago.org/city/en/depts/311/supp_info/faq.html
