Virginia Sen. Tim Kaine said Monday he was saddened by the “senseless act of gun violence” at Ohio State University, even though the attacker used a butcher knife and a car.
Mr. Kaine, who ran on the 2016 Democratic ticket with presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, was accused of pushing a gun-control agenda after his Twitter post blaming firearms for the siege.
It's hard to find a not blatantly biased right source, am still looking for other sources to use since other media is keeping quiet on this right now.
Here's the tweet at the least; https://twitter.com/timkaine/status/803280422155104257
Nice job exploting this lol, god i wish bernie was the democratic candidate.
When did he say it? Before or after the reporys came out saying it was a knife?

Is either one acceptable? He either spoke from ignorance or for dishonesty.

Before the facts on what weapons were used I believe.
Which is ironic because he lambasted Trump for jumping the gun before the facts were out himself.
Edit: the tweet shows it was early in the morning on the day of the attack, so almost definitely before everything was made clear.
His tweet is stamped to the same time just after the attack was happening, so he said that with ignorance.
And people want this retard as the Democratic nominee for 2020?
Even Kanye has more wits than this guy.

the attack was initially described as an active shooter situation while developing. Reasonable mistake.

No it isn't because the perpetrator was not a shooter and to say otherwise is dishonest. He could have bloody well waited until there were actual facts before trying to win points for his political career.
And instead he now gets to look like a moronic dickhead.

fixed that for you.
No one in their right mind on the left would want another Democratic old guard to be the nominee after Hillary and her weak performance. Completely ignoring the flaws of our system she lost democratic strongholds through her arrogance, expecting people in areas she didn't bother to campaign in to vote for her.
Not to mention she, like Trump, represent the old rich white establishment demographic who hold all the influence in our government and the gimmick of this election was the hate and distrust for old rich white people with establishment influence. Trump somehow pulled a win because he actually bothered to campaign in the Rust Belt then lo and behold he repainted the map this election.
gut the dnc

A good presidential candidate would have restrained themselves from making public statements before the facts were known.
If he wanted to comment on a developing situation there were plenty of ways he could have done so without politicizing it or making an ass of himself. Simply wishing for people's safety and quick resolution would have been a smarter move.
The Democrat elites really can't afford to keep making mistakes like this.
Media was reporting shots were fired by the suspect at the time and he tweeted about it, he was just responding to what was being reported at the time..
It isn't a big deal and that's why no credible media is wasting their time reporting on it.

How can you argue that it's dishonest when at the time the perpetrator was identified as an active shooter? If he believed it was a shooter it doesn't make him dishonest.
I'm not claiming that he's not attempting to politicize the matter. But I know I sure as hell was telling my co-workers "hey we've got another school shooting going on" because that's what came across in the reporting. Does that make me dishonest?

if Keith Ellison's put in charge i don't think Kaine's likely to be the DNC's favorite anymore. afaik he was a nobody before this election and without people actively propping him up i think he's likely to stay that way.

It's not dishonest but you are not a public figure using twitter either.
AP specified the type of wounds about twenty minutes later so he couldn't have known at time, but he should have shown some restraint before making a politicized statement like that.
Either way I've seen way worse mistakes people made on Twitter.

This election showed that people don't really care about facts it's all about being a cult leader. tim caine can now get some practice saying "wrong" and "I never said that" in for next election.
If anything, it just shows he's another shitty politician who can't even wait for a tragedy to end before making a political statement to further their cause.
Wasn't it initially reported as a shooting though
Wasn't it initially reported as a shooting though
Doesn't change the fact he should have restraint and wait before making such statements.
When a attack is reported the media should simply report it as a attack and not suggest, state or speculate it could be a shooting or what the suspect looks like before law enforcement releases confirmed info and everything that is said by the media during an attack should be taken with a heavy pinch of salt.

His tweet didn't appear to try to win points for his political career, he just said it was senseless and tragic. If he had gone out of his way to rant about gun control I'd be more critical, but it really seems he was just tweeting what he heard on the news. Human mistake really. He tweeted an update mentioning that it was a knife and car attack too. I'm not a fan of the guy btw; I think he looked a lot more like a moronic dickhead during the VP debate. This is small potatoes.
I like how some morons were so eager to use this horrible event to talk shit about a certain demographic of people, and now they either went silent or are backpedaling harder than riding a bike backwards down the walls of the Grand Canyon.

Uh we talking about Somalians, Muslims, or White officers?
There was a shit ton of racisfying the situation from both sides.

"other media is keeping quiet" are you serious
do you think most people would care about a story about an irrelevant tim kaine saying that "Deeply saddened by the senseless act of gun violence at Ohio State this morning." when people were reporting it as a shooting at first.
It's kind of annoying to get shut down every time a shooting happens because it's seen as political. Can't we try to discuss ways to prevent something like this from happening them again? It'd be nice to stop hearing about someone killing a bunch of people every few months.

By "something like this" you mean someone trying to run a bunch of people over then stab them, or did you not read the article and realize that OP posted one lambasting a politician for blaming "gun violence" on a mass stabbing attack?

I'm speaking more generally than specifically. I know this is about a stabbing attack.
You should probably put media tags around the tweet so people don't make more of these reactionary "I clearly didn't read the article nor the tweet" posts.

All of the above, but in particular I was referring to people from the other thread making posts like "no one should be allowed to own a gun" only for it to turn out that the attacker didn't use any guns.
Then when the attacker turned out to be Muslim, a different poster said something like "we shouldn't generalize the entire population of Muslims based on the mistakes of a few extremists" (which is true), even though plenty of people have been doing just that against firearms enthusiasts whenever another actual shooting occurs.
In short, people are being quick to generalize and engage in identity politics when it goes against their narratives, and now a bunch of them look like idiots like this senator.
