'Life is Beautiful' is a movie that is based during World War II. It encircles the life of an Italian Jew named Guido who soon marries a beautiful wife; whom gave birth to a son named Joshua. During the war Guido and his son were deported to a concentration camp set in Italy. Guido fabricated a lie to tell Joshua that it was all a game in order to protect him from the horrors of the Holocaust, saying if Joshua 'wins' he will get a tank as a reward.

I remember this movie, the ending made me sad :smith:
I have the movie on DVD but I haven't watched it yet. It's also worth noting that over in Italy, Roberto Benigni plays in a lot of comedies so him taking on this material is sort of a tough move.
Really, stay away from his version of Pinocchio.

That was fucking hilarious.
Never seen this but we have it on DVD somewhere. I like Roberto Benigni.
This was a good movie. I loved the bit with "Maria, the Key!" Such a fun, clever character, it made the contrast to the horror around them all the more apparent.
Sad movie, I didn't really like it due to the bit of unrealism.
I should also recommend that you do not watch it with English voice-actors
Watched it in English class last year. Was a great movie.
My Spanish teacher mad my whole class watch this. Definitely fun to watch with an entire class of people, especially at the sad parts.

I shed a manly tear at the end of this movie.
I remember watching it, very creative movie indeed.. It felt very uplifting and happy in comparison to most holocaust movies.
I remember watching this in English last year. Great movie. [sp]No one expected him to die in the end.[/sp]
We watched this in school a few years ago, I thought it was a great movie.
Although it's really hard to enjoy a good movie when there's kids next to you going "Lol fucking jews dey gon' get killed ololol." the whole time.
I might get around to watching it again some time.

Thank you for telling us that without spoiler tags. We all wanted to know. Especially the ones who haven't watched the movie like myself.

I love this movie.
Ending made me sad, and was really hoping that he [sp]somehow smoothed his way out of getting shot.[/sp]
Great movie... I watch it every now and then. Only way to watch it is with the proper Italian audio with subs.
A family member recommended it and I watched it, and I didn't expect to like it so much.
Saw this movie in my senior year of high school. Amazing film, ending was really sad, though I did smile when [sp]the kid gets found by an American tank crew, and the he thinks he finally got his tank.[/sp].
I've seen this movie a couple of times, and each time, I shed manly tears.

Dr. Lessing: "Fat, fat, ugly, ugly, truly all yellow, if you ask me where I am, I tell you: 'Cheep, cheep, cheep!' When I walk I go 'Pop! Pop!' Who am I? tell me a little."

Even the [sp]American soldier at the end[/sp] is re-dubbed for some reason.
Speaking of the English dub, remember the Snow White riddle, where the answer is seven seconds? In Italian, the answer is seven "minuti", which is a pun on the Italian words for "minutes" and "dwarves".
